We Didnt Win The "Must Win Series"

so we lost the series that the coach and the captain were talking up before as a must win series so surley there must be repercussions. It is unlikley that Walter Chawaguta will have his contract extended which i think is up at the end of August.

On Utseya he has done a good job when taibu left and he was given a very weak team but now a few guys have come back to the fold he can no longer really hold down his place in the team so i think the time is now for him to go, his fate is sealed after listining to Alister Campbell critising a number of his tatical decisions.

The main problem has been team balance and the coach and captain have failed to solve this problem that is obvious to all.

coaching options do not juimp out at us but Andy Waller must be a candadite along with Steven Mangongo, bareing in mind that Dave Haughton is unlikely to want to take the job on.

In terms of captaincy Ray Price springs to mind along with Madakaska

Remove both Chawaguta and Utseya.

Bring back cremer, taibu, mutizwa and show the world what Zimbabwe can do. Coventry already proved his mettle today.

Match 4: Two thing stood out as reasons for the debacle.

1. Obviously, the part-timer theory. In fact they had 10-0-78-2, which was in line with Mupariwa and Chigumbura. So, when your frontline bowlers struggle, you can't look towards your part timers, as they are already filling up another quota.

2. Prosper Utseya. 7*(3) and 10-0-46-1 looks a spectacular return for the day,but the lethargy he showed on field, with a couple of misfields himself, and giving easy singles when Price was bowling were criminal mistakes. And there is a saying in the ancient language Sanskrit - "Yathaa Rajaa, tathaa prajaa" - which means, "citizen of the country follow its leader (in whatever they do)". Disastrous tactics, drooping shoulders, not the way to win a game.

It was still encouraging to see Senator David Coltart pat on the back of both Prosper and Charles after their post match interviews.

Yes, Chawaguta and Utseya must go. Throughout the whole match today, if there was anyone showing some tactics and encouragement, it was Pricey and Taylor. Bring back Robin Brown as coach, and Masakadza at the top. I would let Pricey / Taylor / Chigumbura concentrate on their primary job.

Ideal scenario.
However the icing on cake would be return of Heath Streak in coaching set up..but too wishful thinking , i beleive.

Yeah. Streaky as bowling coach to assist Robin Brown. Would be the ultimate coaching setup. But after reading about the ZC awards ceremony, I'm not optimistic.

I would love to see Robin Brown back as coach assisted by Heath Streak and Alistair Campbell. I think a full strength Zimbabwe side should look as follows;

1. Mark Vermeulen
2. Hamilton Masakadza
3. Charles Coventry
4. Tatenda Taibu (w)
5. Sean Williams
6. Brendan Taylor
7. Elton Chigumbura
8. Ray Price
9. Graeme Cremer
10. Tawanda Mupariwa
11. Edward Rainsford

I just have a couple of questions and please do not get me wrong I want to get the perceptions at which some comments above have been written:

have any of you played top level cricket?
have any of you ever been part of the Zimbabwe cricket casino at any one stage of your lives?
Are you aware that there is an actual A team which has people who have been turning on on stellar performances?
Do you believe that the so called 15 who have been selected and reselected over and over again really will change and begin playing accordingly, humans are creatures of habit?
Are you aware that you only realize that learning is change in behavior?

Why do we keep focusing on random cricketers who all of a sudden have crept up to play for the national team in the last four/three years and have done absolutely NOTHING!!!Where really has there been behavioral change in the performance of the so called national team????

All i leave you with all is this firstly cricket is indeed a THINKING game and unfortunately for Zimbabwe the selected team is only as good as the players that are available for selection. How can you have a good national team when your first class structure does not even compare to say USSASA Universities League in terms of quality.A national team is only as good as its feeder system which from what I hear is non existent in Zimbabwe..U don't go off and fine one of your best players in the face of a must win, he has proven to be a cut way above the rest, am a realist and numbers speak to me.

It's a sham whats happening to Zimbabwe Cricket..In fact ITS SAD

I dont understand what you are trying to say. Are you saying we should play at the top level to understand cricket? what are you saying?

Not at all I am saying for us to be judge jury and executioners we have to have a personal insight into that which we are talking about i.e a new team or who gets fired by who.Sure enough the team is performing well below par and I understand all your comments but remember that a national team is the epitome of a process that begins with junior cricket and culminates at the top, the process that is supposed to ensure that only and only your best X1 play at any given day the same process that ensures that intellect is identified in a skipper or coach, the process that measures the deliverable s with which the skipper, team and coach will be measured against.

Do we have such a structure in place such that when we say it supposedly a "must win series" we do not just get in camp for a week or so and people fly in two days before a game and play..

Do we have the structure and developmental model to ensure that we keep on progressing?? No and to say Robin Brown come back is all good but does he want? and were plans in place to keep all those involved in the game to stay within the game and build..Lets think structure time and processes which will get Zimbabwe cricket to where we want it to be.Look at the OZ and South \Africa their national team is successful because of STRUCTURE..And here we are shooting from the hip and re-selecting and indifferent team which will bring us back to this same discussion after another poor series...Its been three years and the same result..I believe process reengineering is necessary.
