ZC announces remaining appointments to the National Selection Panel
Start of domestic season moved to mid September
Zimbabwe Cricket has announced the appointment of two additional members to the national selection panel. David Mutendera and John Rennie will join the Chairman of Selectors, Alistair Campbell on the three man panel that will, starting 1 September 2009, select players to national duty.
David Mutendera was a seam bowler for the national team, making his ODI debut in 1999-2000 and playing his solitary Test the following season, while John Rennie was a fast-medium swing bowler who played for the national team between 1993 and 2002.
“We are tapping into all available resources to ensure that we get the best people for the job. Both David and John are seasoned cricketers who have played both domestic and international cricket, †said Campbell.
Each of the five franchises will also appoint their own team selectors who will act as scouts for the national panel.
Meanwhile, the Cricket Committee, comprising Alistair Campbell (Chairman), Andrew Waller, Stanley Staddon, Jackie du Preez, Tavengwa Mukuhlani, Walter Chawaguta and Dirk Viljoen, has made the decision to postpone the start of the domestic season by three weeks.

“We would like to see each franchise coming into the game with a complete team that will train together and begin the pursuit of the new domestic season as a cohesive unit ,†said Campbell in a telephone interview.
He added that to meet the playing objectives, the Cricket Committee was also in the process of re-looking the draft playing calendar for the domestic season and that this would be finalized and circulated by the end of the coming week.
“We are thankful that the board has been supportive of these recommendations, and we eagerly await the start of the domestic cricket season, †he co
