When the squads for the logan cup were announced I was pleased to see that the spread of the best wicketkeepers was what I thought about correct:-

Moutaineers - Taibu
Eagles - Chakabva (or Mufambisi)
Rhinos - Mahlunge
Rocks - Maregwede
Tuskers - Ngulube

However I see that Mutizwa kept for the Eagles with Mufambisi not playing and Chakabva playing purely as a batsman. In the Rhino's match Mahlunge didn't play so I assume Kasteni kept wicket.

What are peoples views about the respective qualities of each of these players and should some be concentrating purely on their batting and give up the gloves? Who should be the 5 keepers for the 5 franchises?

Mutizwa could well turnout to be the best 'keeper of the current crop of players, so absolutely he should be 'keeping for Eagles. That he had a part in three run-outs on the last day of the Eagles v Mountaineers game speaks for itself, I think.

When I was interviewing Maregwede, I got the impression he was looking to be judged solely on his batting, at least as far as national selection is concerned, so I wouldn't be surprised to see someone else take the gloves for Rocks in due course...

Certainly a good position for Zim cricket to have such a good group of wicket keepers, especially if they are also capable with the bat.

A couple of points,

I'm not sure who is the back-up to Tatenda Taibu at Mountaineers

Am i right in thinking that Richmond Mutumbami is an up and coming keeper for Rocks ?

Charles Coventry will be back-up to Tafadzwa Ngulube at Tuskers, or will it be the other way round ?

Will Brendan Taylor keep for Rhinos with Tarisai Mahlunge his deputy, or the other way round ?

Robin, i was intrigued by your comment that Mahlunge didn't play, can i ask how you know that ? there still doesn't appear to be any sign of a scorecard or any decent reports on the Rhino v Tuskers game.

Sibanda, Kasteni, Chapungu, Waller, Nyathi, Chikunya, Mire, Cremer, Mugochi, Rainsford, Muzarabani 12th Man - Donald Mavhiko

Tuskers:-

Duffin, Mujuru, Vermeulen, Coventry, Strydom, Madhiri, Ngulube, Nyumbu, Mboyi, Mupariwa, Mpofu 12th Man - Sean Williams

Sean Williams as 12th Man is a bit of a suprise as is the absense of Dabengwa.

The line up for all teams show strength in the spinning depts (especially with Ewing and Kumongozi yet to play) but a lack of quality/depth in pace/seam. Disappointing therefore to not to see Munyumwa play for the eagles.

With all the talk of returning players surely the emphasis should be on getting some pace bowlers back; Travis Friend, Campbell McMillan, Allen Mawayenga, Scott Brant, Waddington Mwayenga, Anthony Ireland, Tinashe Panyangara, Ian Nicholson and Kyle Jarvis. When test status is regained what players could we expect to see backing up Elton Chigumbura in that dept otherwise - none of those currently playing have the pace to trouble test batsmen.

Isn't Innocent Chikunya a wicketkeeper? Perhaps he kept for Rhinos. He has 21 catches in 10 first class matches. As a fledging statistican I find Zimbabwe cricket the most frustrating in terms of wicketkeepers as so many cricketrs have multi skilled. In the 80's Dave Houghton, Gerald Peckover & Robin Brown shared & today it's more confusing. How talented is Taibu when he has career best bowling figures of 8-43?

Yes multi skilled, but how good is the opposition he is bowling against....I feel the latter

Taibu for national team keeper for me and hed make a good vice captain not to sure who currently holds that position in the national team
