Not sure Dane Paterson is the greatest loss.

Every player is a significant loss when you look at the overall picture here; sure if he were the only player to defect it wouldn't be a huge issue, but with the trend we've seen it's another bad loss for CSA

Why would you do it now? You're throwing the rest of your career for one season!?

It's like leaving your wife for a hottie that has terminal cancer. Gotta hope that 6 months you have is worth it.

I assume he plans to retire in a year or worm his way into English citizenship ?

I guess so

I met some lovely people from South Africa last year; half had already left & the last 3 were telling me about how tough it’s getting over there.

Like many before him I’m sure Dane’s decision is based off quality of life rather than his cricketing career

Okay, yea, it highlights the continued player drain of South African cricket, but mate this guy is and always will be bang average at international level.
He can go for all I care and he can take Hendricks with him as well. Get you Nandre Burger or Stefan Tait into the T20 sides and breed them young, or Coetzee

South African cricket is getting ruined by the Quota system. Quota players Bavuma, Reeza, Beauran don't deserve to be anywhere near the side. What a farce CSA has become.

I think Bavuma deserves to be there, he's a class act and showed in the MSL he can be a decent T20 opener. Both Hendricks need to go, right away.
Bueran Hendricks is probably the most over rated bowler in South Africa.
How is Muelder, Andile, Coetzee, Nandre Burger, Jannaman Malan, Verreyne not near this side?? It's absolutely appalling.

The talent in South Africa is still on another level. There's some stupidly good young cricketers knocking about. Van Tonder and Breezke should be somewhere near this squad.

Jannaman Malan
Verreyne
Markram
Van Tonder
Breezke
Muelder
Andile
Coetzee

Just a few names that, in an ideal world, would walk into any national South Africa side

South Africa right now could actually have one of the best sides in the world, and there’s actually not many black players who’d make the cut. The only guys I can think of are Rabada and perhaps Ngidi, although he still needs to convince me he’s good enough.
The talent right now in SA is insane
