Post by Kriterion_BD »

A lot of the teams have announced their squads. Will we see any upsets this year?

It may sound laughable atm, but my pick to win this tournament is Pakistan. I don't know, I have a very strong feeling that they will pull this off.

Hope to be proved wrong and India can finally end the ICC trophy drought that has been haunting us for 11 years.

I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and make some predictions for the tournament...lets see how I do onces its all over, lmao.

This is a format that always throws up upset results so here goes:

Group A Standings

India - 8 points
Pakistan - 6
Ireland - 4
USA - 2
Canada - 0

Group B Standings

Australia - 8
England - 4
Scotland - 4
Namibia - 4
Oman - 0

Group C Standings

New Zealand - 6
Afghanistan - 6
West Indies - 4
Uganda - 2
PNG - 0

Group D Standings

South Africa - 8
Bangladesh - 6
Sri Lanka - 4
Netherlands - 4
Nepal - 0

So the first round upsets I have are as follows:

Scotland beats England
Namibia beats Scotland
Afghanistan beats New Zealand
Uganda beats Afghanistan
Netherlands beats Sri Lanka

Bangladesh have landed in the US for an official 3 match T20I series against the USA before their first two World Cup fixtures in Dallas and NYC.

Dallas has a very large Desi population so should see a lot of Bangladeshis at the ground. Obviously, NYC has 65% of all the Bangladeshis in the entire USA so if the stadium holds 34,000...there should be 33,500 Bangladeshi fans there for the game vs South Africa.

If the pitches are going to be slow and bowler friendly then we can see some upsets at the WC. Some of these associates are se used to playing on slow sluggish wickets, they actually thrive in such conditions.

We know what happened to India and Pakistan in 2007 in a similar ODI WC format. This could get tricky for some of those top teams.
