Bangladesh players go on strike, tour of India under threat

Post by Kriterion_BD »

BD players have suddenly and unexpectedly pulled a Zimbabwe here. Honestly, its a bit embarassing we've reached this point before Pakistan has. Thats proof that the PCB is more well managed than the BCB after all.

The players are making good points - all 11 demands are justified and justifiable. 1 of the demands is a selfless one to improve the salaries of groundsmen, local coaches, trainers, and physios.

However, in the absense of the BCB bending over and caving, I'd like to see the players be willing to compromise for both short term (India tour) and long term benefits.

I will say though, that cancellation of a tour to India will leave the BCB dead and buried, so perhaps that is why the players chose to pounce now of all times. Shrewd if that is indeed the case.

But BD cricket is at the crossroads here...they could rise like a Phoenix or crash into oblivion.

The difference between BD and Zim is that the BD players are united. They are all firm and strong on what they want and are ensuring they fight for better cricket in the country.

If this was in Zim, Raza would have been thrown under the bus by now, many would have been dropped and others would be taking their spots and Mukhu would be going on about how ungrateful these players are to be earning $10 a day, and there would have been about 10 calls of racism.

You won’t get the Zimbabwean cricketers to stick together because they’ve all proven before they’ll burn each other

When the national players strike the domestic players take their spots, when the domestic players strike the club cricketers too their spots!!! We even had the instance when the domestic players went on strike mid match only for the national players to take the field and continue the match without them.

You also have the black / white issue that never goes away

The situation has been resolved for now.

The BCB says they will comply with 9 of the original 11 demands and the players have decided to get back to work although they don't seem entirely convinced the BCB will give them what they want. They have kept the door open for further strikes should the board renege on their promises.

IMO, while almost all the demands are sound and fair...the players should remain open to compromise. Everything can't be done in a short time and if you strike because just 1 demand wasn't met, you risk doing severe damage to the game overall. For example, cancelling an India tour would have disastrous consquences not just for the board but spillover to the players themselves.

The board should do everything reasonable in their power to accede to these demands and the players should be willing to give the board a fair amount of time to implement the changes.
