BD can win a singular ODI, although without Shakib (good chance he misses the tour due to the birth of his wife's 3rd child) the chances diminish a good amount. In the recent past there's been a couple of ODIs Bangladesh came close in against NZ in NZ. The law of averages indicate and fluke win should ber right around the corner, lol.

Bangladesh are about to return to Test cricket after an insanely long 10 month break. Pretty much a full strength side for us so although we will probably be somewhat rusty, we should win fairly easily.

Biggest news is Shakib is back. Here is the XI I would go with given the squad we have:

1) Tamim
2) Shadman
3) Najmul
4) Mominul (captain)
5) Mushfiq
6) Shakib
7) Liton (WK)
8) Nayeem
9) Taijul
10) Jayed
11) Ebadat

There is a possibility that we only play one seamer and play 4 spinners with Miraz getting in. But Domingo and Gibson both seem to put an emphasis on developing seamers, and if you can't play any at home there's no way you will magically have 3 quicks who can get the job done overseas.

Unfortunately it seems the good old days of watching Bangladesh games on youtube are over!

I'm watching on the Sling app. Don't think it will be streamed on youtube. Perhaps the usual cricket sites have it (?).

Bangladesh probably slightly ahead after day 1. We should get 300+ with ease as we bat well down to number 9, with Taijul at #10.

Windies spinners bowled quite well I thought. Big Cornwall bowls about as slow as any spinner I've seen at Test level, averaging just 80 kph and bowling as slow as 70. But that lack of pace coupled with a slowish outfield makes run scoring a quite difficult on this wicket. I reckon we're already at a par total, and anything well beyond 300 might be tough especially if you're batting last.

Shadman did fairly well. Classsical Test opener and ate up a lot of deliveries. Should have kicked on obviously, but got a decent score. Najmul looked great. Its one thing to be run out due to great fielding another to be run out the way he did. But after struggling in the ODI series, he looked right at home here. Batted solidly in his two previous Tests at #3 vs Pakistan and Zimbabwe, so he looks to be our permanent #3 now. Just 22 years old, I expect him to start hitting his prime this year as we should have 8-10 Test matches lined up for the year.

Mominul looked scratchy - which is fine because a great batsman will play himself in. Momin though got bogged down and was cleverly dismissed it seems. Mushfiq was Mushfiq - scoring runs regardless of the pitch conditions or bowling quality. Excellent catch by Giant Man stooping low to dismiss him - no clue how a guy with that much abdominal girth bent down so quickly so hats off to him.

Shakib and Liton will have to continue and take the total up past 300 by lunch tomorrow. Miraz and Nayeem can bat, so still a fair amount of batting left in our lineup.

Fizz ahead of Jayed probably looks like a poor decision - but given the conditions Fizz's cutters, reverse swing, and footmarks for the off spinners trumps Jayed's conventional swing. But when you play just 1 seamer at home, it will be exceedingly difficult to get 3 quicks in shape for overseas Tests. We saw that in NZ a couple years ago, where Jayed, Ebadat, and Khaled all bowled well the first 10 overs and then lost steam given thats close to how many overs they bowl in an entire first class match back home.

430 all out. About 75-100 more than I thought we might get. Excellent knock from Miraz at #8. I always thought he's batted well under his ability. He's got the quality to average 30 with the bat.

Still a decent pitch to bat on...might be better than day 1 even. Outfield also seems to have quickened a bit. I really hope we bat again.

Apart from their opening seamers this is a park team the Windies have put out, look at their first class averages

Ehh, Windies are almost always a park side. Still somehow managed to win a Test in England last summer :D

The current bunch are putting up a surprsingly bigger fight than the nearly-full strength WI side that showed up in 2018. Windies end the day on 75-2...the Hetmyer-Chase-Hope led lineup would have been 50-5 here. Their spinners actually bowled decently, especially Warrican but Cornwall wasn't bad either.

Windies batsmen all have poor first class averages from what I can remember. A 35 average gets you into the Test team!

I was curious so just ran the numbers to find their domestic batting averges (Test minus FC, since Test are included in the latter):

Roston Chase - 44.43 average
Braithwaite - 42.82
Blackwood - 33.49
S Hope - 32.02
Sharmah Brooks - 30.88
Hetmyer - 30.55
Campbell - 29.27

These are the guys that won a Test in England a few months ago. As you can see, even the first string WI batsmen have very poor averages across the board. Just 2 guys above 35.

Re: Windies struggles. They really seem to only be equipped to play T20 cricket both in terms of skills and intention. You would think being a top class T20 side would mean their ODI side would be decent, but thats not how its worked out.

The only way forward is for them to identify Test specialists, forget about the flashier players who would rather play Abu Dhabi T10 rather than Test cricket, and pay their Test players as much as they can afford to encourage other players to take up the game. Not every Caribbean player will make it to the IPL, so those guys should be enticed to play Tests and look forward to a decent living even if they can't be millionaires like Andre Russell or Nicholas Pooran.

With Braithwaite, Chase, Blackwood, Hope, and Hetmyer the Windies have a decent core to move forward with in Tests. They may not be world beaters, but with their bowling attack - they can still win the odd Test in England and elsewhere.

____________________

Back to this match. Windies looking OK at 75-2. They will look to push on. First session on day 3 will likely decide which way the game is headed. If the Windies can blunt the spinners and get to 150-3 or even better by lunch, they will surely avoid the follow on and will be in prime position to aim for 1st innings parity. Get to 375 and its game on.

Bangladeshi spinners - from what I saw - got even less purchase than Windies ones. Nothing to worry about yet, especially with Fizz bowling beautifully as he's attacked the stumps, winning 2 lbw decisions already and a couple of other close shouts.

Shaping up to be a good Test so far. Hope it goes deep into a 4th day at least since 3 day matches aren't much fun at all.

Windies 203-5 just after lunch. This ad hoc Windies team is putting up a much better fight than their first string side did a couple years ago.

Our spinners are bowling one bad ball every over. Unable to maintain pressure. Nayeem though with the ball of the innings so far to get the well set Braithwaite bowled for 76. Top class delivery.

Windies looking good to get 300+ here. Bangladesh will have to bat long and big in the 2nd innings.
