West Indies in Bangladesh 2021

Post by Kriterion_BD »

10 of the Windies top names have decided to skip the tour due to concerns about COVID. No excuse now for BD failing to get a 5-0 sweep :D

That being said, with Gabriel, Roach, and Joseph and Cornwall, Windies have more or less their first string bowling attack. I just hope we don't play on raging turners or a dead wicket with zero carry.

I'm almost sure Mohammad Mithun will be selected, but I sincerely hope he's not in any of the XIs.

The Caribbean Kings just don’t fancy a tour of Bangladesh, I’d assume facilities wise and overall enjoyment BD would be probably the worst country to tour?

When was the last time the Windies sent their actual best team to BD ?

I remember last time Rovman Powell was the ODI captain then he didn’t even make the WC 15-man squad

Facilities wise Bangladesh is as good as any Asian country. The nightlife is lacking but there's plenty of booze available. :D

I think the Windies sent a full strength side last time, minus Jason Holder who was injured I think and Darren Bravo who was still beefing with the board.

Bangladesh will probably be happy just to be back on the field, being the last of the 12 full members to get back to international cricket. I suspect we'll be rusty, so this might the best introduction back to the game. An easy 30 points in the WCSL will also go a long ways to securing an automatic berth at the next World Cup.

The Asian teams all seem to be struggling with injuries. Could it be lack of fitness and the long COVID layoff?

India have lost several pacers - Shami, Umesh in the current series plus Ishant from before.
Sri Lanka have lost the most players - Lakmal, Kumara, Dhananjaya, Chandimal and some more.
Pakistan have lost Babar Azam for the entire series vs NZ which is a huge blow to them.

Hope Bangladesh can buck that trend.

I think overall if you compare touring Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or the UAE most people can agree Bangladesh would be the worst.

Going off Alan Butcher’s book he hated it, he said it was very uncomfortable and unpleasant

Oh the UAE would easily be the "best" place to tour amongst all Test nations - with the possibly exception of New Zealand. But even Las Vegas can't compete with Dubai in terms of oppulence, pomp, and grandiosity.

I haven't been to Bangladesh in many years, have never been to Chittagong/Chattogram, and haven't been to Sylhet since I was an infant. Dhaka is extremely crowded - more so than any other city in India, Pakistan, or Sri Lanka.

I'm sure if Alan Butcher went to both Kabul and Dhaka, he'd find the former "more comfortable" and "pleasant" because it is to be frank. I watched a Youtube vlog on Kabul once and was shocked to see how much cleaner and neater Kabul is than any section of Dhaka. Add to that the pleasant weather, and it isn't really much of a contest.

Bangladesh winning the toss and fielding first. Sensible with dew being a factor.

Very pleased to see Najmul Hossain Shanto getting to bat at #3. Tremendous talent I feel. Young Shoriful should have played ahead of Hasan Mahmud, but I guess the think tank is going with seniority. Saifuddin also unlucky to miss out.

Fizz strikes first with a lovely little inswinger before rain stops play.

WI 15-1

I really hope the Windies can set us a good total...want to see us score some runs.

Shakib running through this Windies lineup. They are 58-5 in the 20th over. Their lower order can bat a bit, but it looks impossible to see them getting closet to 200 even. They simply must bat out the 50 overs.

Windies turning it on now. Current partnership going at a run a ball almost. Windies could get 250 plus if these two bat another 15 overs.
