Ireland Wolves tour of Bangladesh 2021

Post by Kriterion_BD »

First unoffical Test against Bangladesh Emerging starts in a few hours. I am curious as to why the squad is being called Emerging instead of the A team.

The Irish seem to have picked a strong squad...I recognize most of the names in their side. The Bangladesh team has one Test player in Saif Hassan plus Yasir Ali who has been called up to the Test squad but is still uncapped. Many of the U-19 boys are playing in this side as well.

Should be a close contest.

Ireland batting first off to a decent start on a greentop at Chattogram.

BD team is our U-19 side plus a couple of Test seamers essentially. Good move to give our undercooked bowlers some match time ahead of the SL Test series.

BD Emerging doing fairly well. Bowled Ireland out for 151 with an unknown SLA picking 5 for 55. Both national team seamers Ebadat (who took 2-23) and Khaled (1-20) bowled economically, with Khaled looking quite quick. Ebadat has changed his action and now has a more classical action than his previous Brett Lee type action. Leg spinner Rishad didn't seem to get much turn, but this was a first day greentop, so hoping he gets more purchase on Day 3.

Tanzid Hasan Tamim looked fantastic but only lasted 39 balls for his 41. At one stage he had smacked 28 off 16. But all his shots were orthodox cricketing shots. Solid technique but very poor temperament. Haven't seen much of the other guys, but 297-6 looks like Bangladesh are firmly in control of the match at this stage.

Facile win in the end. Tanvir Islam with a 13 wicket haul. That’s just bad for BD because it just reinforces the reliance on left arm orthodoxy.

Should have been a two match series instead of having 7 white ball games. Actually nothing wrong with 7 white ball games just add another first class match dammit.
