2020-23 World Cup ODI Super League Watch

Post by Kriterion_BD »

Idk if a thread already exists, but we're well into this tournament and lets have a look at how things stands.

India qualify for the 2023 World Cup automatically as hosts, followed by the next 7 sides. The remaining 5 sides join the top 3 teams from ODI League 2, plus the top 2 from the List A Challenge Leagues for the 2023 World Cup Qualifier hosted in Zimbabwe.

The Current table is as follows:

1. England 4-5, 40 points
2. Pakistan 4-2, 40 points
3. Australia 4-2, 40 points
4. New Zealand 3-0, 30 points
5. Afghanistan 3-0, 30 points
6. Bangladesh 3-3, 30 points
7. West Indies 3-3, 30 points
8. India 3-3, 29 points
9. Zimbabwe 1-2, 10 points
10. Ireland 1-5, 10 points
11. South Africa 1-2, 9 points
12. Sri Lanka 0-3, -2 points

As you can see India, South Africa and Sri Lanka have lost points due to poor over rates, with Sri Lanka actually with a negative balance of points!

I think every team will be playing 24 matches, meaning there is a total of 240 points up for grabs. It will be interesting to see how this pans out as we go along with the pandemic being the biggest chance of playing spoilsport.

Ireland losing 3 games to Afghanistan is quite heartbreaking for them. Zimbabwe are OK for now, their games against Ireland and Bangladesh will be crucial.

With each team only playing 24 games, every win is crucial. Ireland stole a game vs England and Zimbabwe stole one vs PAK. There are still too many games left to be played, but the Irish can’t afford to lose the series to ZIM. They need to win at least 2-1 to stay afloat.
