Tamim Iqbal retires

Post by Kriterion_BD »

One of my favorite BD players makes a sudden shock retirement, aged just 34. I would have hoped he would have carried on another 3-4 years and possibly even till the 2027 ODI world cup. Sadly, not to be.

Tamim was a tremendous talent, and in the end, only his ODI statistics came close to doing justice to his skills. I always felt he should have averaged well north of 40 in Tests and hitting 40 in ODIs, but he never quite got there.

At any rate, he was a class act on and off the field, and managed to stir up considerably less controversey than Mushfiq and Shakib (the other members of the Bangladesh Big 3). He will definitely be missed, and its going to be weird not having him around every again.

On typical sub-continental form, his retirement lasted all but 24-hours 😂

Why be so dramatic, handle criticism better, so bloody predictable

Tamim's U turn was expected, he took an emotional decision and with the WC just three months away, this U turn was always on the cards. I'm happy for him to take it back though. Makes sense.

Afghanistan meanwhile have crushed Bangladesh and won the series. Unexpected that.

Series win in Bangladesh against a full strength side albeit distracted with Tamim’s saga is no laughing matter. Only England has managed to win a series in Bangladesh in the last 10 years.

Poor display from BD. But well done by the AFG in all departments.

Afghanistan are improving each year. Their batting was always their week point but in recent years now, it's got stronger and stronger

It is remarkable that Afghanistan can continue to improve given they never get to play at home and the country is ruled by stone age barbarians.

Bangladesh avoids an embarrassing whitewash.

May be a blessing in disguise because it highlights the fact that you have to be on your A game at the Asia Cup and vs all 9 opponents at the World Cup. A comfortable series win, and BD would be likely to take their foot off the gas for the AC and WC.

Plenty of work to do…but we seem to have a fairly settled unit.
