Sri Lanka in Bangladesh 2024

Post by Kriterion_BD »

Sri Lanka win the T20 series 2-1. Quite a bit of heat between both teams in that series. The rivalry has really gotten spicy since 2018.

ODIs start in about 30 mins. I really hope Tanzid Hasan Tamim is in the XI. He's better than both Liton Das and Soumya Sarker IMO.

Sri Lanka went from 71-1 in the first 10 overs to just 255. A very low target in the modern game. Terrific bowling from young Tanzim to set up the eventual collapse.

Bangladesh were struggling in the chase at 23-3, before the young gun (Shanto) and old gun (Mushy) got to together for an unbeaten 165 run partnership. Poetic in my view, because Mushy is the original Mr Dependable and now Shanto is version two of the same. Mushfiq was the best overall batter we'd produced, and Shanto now takes that role moving forward. Almost impossible to believe a year ago he was averaging 15 with the bat, and the constant social media ridicule caused him to tell his wife that he wanted to retire and leave cricket altogether.

SL have decided to bowl first given the dew factor in the first game.

Bangladesh getting 286...similar innings trajectory as SL in the first game, but they finish with 30 runs more. Even stevens I'd say, perhaps Bangladesh with a slight advantage at the halfway stage.

Seamers will be key once again.

Terrific batting from young Towhid Hridoy. The youngsters are beginning to step up.

Finally after a long time I spent some time watching the match today, I thought Bangladesh lost their way in the middle overs and that probably cost them 20 runs which could have been the difference. Very good knock though from Hridoy.

Having said that Nissanka and Asalanka played really well and this is a series of two equals. Toss will play a role in the last game as well.

Disappointing loss here. I would say Bangladesh are the stronger side, but Sri Lanka are an improving side of course and they've closed much of the gap with us the past couple of years. All to play for in the final game.

Nissanka is a real gem for SL. Kusal Mendis is just too inconsistent, but he's a gamebreaker and with Nissanka, Asalanka, and Samarawickrama you can afford to have a guy like that in the side.

SL choosing to bat first...74/4 now.

I feel like Kusal always scores runs against Bangladesh, even though he's otherwise a very mediocre batter (supremely talented tho).

Thankfully, Liton Das has finally been dropped. Idk why so many in Bangladesh rate him so highly...yes, he's better than Imrul Kayes or Sabbir Rahman...be he's nowhere near as talented as many others.

Also Rishad Hossain gets his first look of the series. Should have always been there ahead of Taijul Islam. Some really silly selections this series!

Great game in the end. Ironic it was the two guys riding the bench the whole series who won the game, and consequently the series for Bangladesh. Rishad smoked Hasaranga en route to 48 off 18 with the game in the balance. Tamim Jr with a career best 84 off 80...not sure why the think tank think Liton Das and his ducks are a better option.

Overall, I think this series was a very entertaining one. But really I think Bangladesh should be beating the likes of SL and Afghanistan 3-0 in ODIs, and we've still to manage that.

These shouldn’t even be proper games. ICC spread the love much too thinly giving Zimdesh full member status

I've always wondered where you got the zimdesh name from. From a cricketing perspective, isn't there more of a similarity between Zimbabwe and say Tanzania? Plus Zimzania has a pretty awesome ring to it. Or even Tanbabwe. Sounds like someone who's spent a bit of time sunbathing

Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are the most similar of all the cricket playing countries. All 3 are cricket crazy countries with an abundance of natural talent. All 3 have obnoxious fanbases, all 3 teams can beat anyone on their day, but lose most of the time. All three have players with similar sounding names. For this reason, I think its fair to coin the term Panghanladesh!

I don’t know where it came from, just made it up one day and it sounded good  you’re losers like us so it’s a good fit yo.

Shadystan and Zimdesh are similar in that there’s an abundance of match fixing and a whole host of other shady shenanigans  I can’t be doing with Afghanistan at all, blatant government interference and no credible women’s team should see them sanctioned.

Hope you’re having a focused and reflective month anyway lol.
