Afghans planning to play their first test v Zim at Sharjah

Post by CrimsonAvenger »

According to this report: https://www.thenational.ae/sport/cricke ... t-1.621597

A little disappointing. If they had played in India (Greater Noida), Zim could have come early and probably played a few warm up matches against the Ranji teams to acclimatise themselves. After all, even our oldest test cap, Hamilton Masakadza hasn't even played a single test / ODI in India.

Greater Noida or Sharjah, bring it on! Sikander Raza-Butt, Sean Williams, Malcolm Waller and Graeme Cremer will bowl Zimbabwe to a crushing victory over Afghanistan! :D

Total Number of Matches vs Afghanistan Per Zimbabwe Player(select):
Raza - 20
Elton - 19
Malcolm - 18
WIlliams - 13
Cremer - 12
-----------------
Hami - 11
Panyangara - 9
Chatara - 8
Shingi - 3
Vusi - 2

- Overall, Hami actually has just one score in single digits and a 51 batting average against Afghanistan(none of the other current Zimbabwe batsman averages more than 34 against them)
- Zimbabwe have won 40% of the matches Hami has played against Afghans. Plus only Raza, Hami and Chigumbura average over 50 batting in matches Zimbabwe have won against Afghanistan.
- Overall, Chigumbura also has Zimbabwe's best bowling average and Strike Rate against Afganistan, while Jongwe and Chisoro have the 2nd and 3rd most wicekts agianst them - after Cremer.
- Of the 5 matches Zimbabwe won against Afghanistan, in which Rashid Khan played->Mutumbami, Hami, Chamu, Musakanda, Mire top scored respectively.

Boy! How times have changed in Zimbabwe. The better you do, the less you play.

Anyway, at least "oldest test cap, Hamilton Masakadza" will be there...

NB: Zimbabwe have played 24 matches against Afghanistan - Won 8, Lost 16!

Yeah it would have been nicer if it was in India. At least it's not Kabul though!

According to cricinfo there is some possibility of Afghanistan playing the Boxing Day Test in South Africa this year since India will not be able to tour till the new year. CSA is apparently looking at PAK/AFG as the replacement for a one-off Test to fill the now vacant Boxing Day slot.

Wonder when the ZIM-AFG series is scheduled. Cuz this might then mean PAK plays the BDT in South Africa.

Zimbabwe also have a chance to play one off Boxing day test against the proteas.

Well I've also heard the Afghans are debuting in Test cricket with a 5 Test marquee series vs India while Ireland hosts England for a the first ever 7-Test rubber. I believe you've heard the same as well...

Jokes aside, the cricinfo article mentioned AFG and PAK and if the AFG are busy playing Zimbabwe during the Boxing Day Test, my guess would be that Zimbabwe would be unavailable to play SA as well. Just a hunch.
The BCCI has already alerted Cricket South Africa on the scheduling difficulties, which both boards expect to sort out by next week. ESPNcricinfo understands CSA has accepted the fact that India will miss the Boxing Day Test, and, hence, have started looking for other options to stage a one-off Test. Pakistan and Afghanistan are reportedly the two possible options, but nothing concrete has emerged yet on that front.

Looks like Hhm is up to his old tricks trying to mislead the forum with his stats, yes Elton has the best average and Strike rate but a closer look at the stats ( which Hhm has conveniently forgot to share ) shows he has barely bowled against Afghanistan and his great stats all come from the one match in where he got 3-32.

Now before we hear the cries of him being 'marginalised' again I will point out of the 14 matches Elton has played against Afghanistan he was captain for 10 of those matches so only he is to blame for not bowling himself. I could call him a 'coward' for not bowling himself as Hhm has labelled Cremer many times but I actually like Elton so I'll refrain.

Hami and Williams ( to a lessor extent ) have enjoyed themselves against Afghanistan especially Hami who has passed 50 in 4 of his 8 innings against them.

Ervine has really struggled against Afghanistan which may be a reason we have struggled to beat them since he is our best batsman. Elton, Malcolm and Chamu have also really struggled.
