The world cup qualifiers strip was the best ever imo. This current one really looks pathetic.
It was definitely our best of late, but i think our best ever were early 00's. Some of the 90's stuff was iconic too. The 99 WC one was stunning too.

Yeah I remember buying my first ever one around 2001/02 for Z$1000 from Bata. the 2010 sponsored by CBZ was also decent. This current one is a tad embarrassing actually.

ZC needs to improve their branding and accessibility of these kits and stuff etc, have official per season launches too including the franchises. This can bring some revenue and also some colour on match days when fans are back. Tired of seeing fans wearing formal work shirts and shoes at matches

I agree! I think the franchises have lost their way a bit and the branding is quite poor. Obviously there’s no money to do it but I almost think rebranding and relaunching the franchises would be good. Name them after cities and people would associate more with them - Harare Capitals, Bulawayo Buffalo, Masvingo Leopards, Mutare Lions , KweKwe Rhinos. Bright new kits and logos, an active social media presence for each and fan initiatives.

At the moment no one is really interested in the franchises and very few are very passionate or attached to one.

We can dream, hey?!

Not too sure about the names though  But yeah ZC really need a branding specialist with international exposure, the Instagram page has really improved. I don't think cricket can be mass marketed in Zim. it is an elite sport with a generally up market following. the marketing and branding should target this group especially when it comes to sales of replicas etc. Make it cool for the upper middle class and top class to be associated with Zim cricket by being in their faces. In South Africa unlike in Asia, 80% of the fans at the ground have limited cricket knowledge but it is just cool to be there and wear the green and gold. Target private schools across the country etc for brand awareness, then all of a sudden kids are posting in Zim shirts at the cricket. Like how that Cottco rugby event was the coolest thing in the Zim sports calendar a few years back surely ZC can get their brand back with the right brains.

Bulawayo Bastards? Harare Looters? Masvingo Matchfixers? Mutare Mercenaries? KweKwe Corruptors?

Yeah I think I need to rethink the names hahaha.

But I agree - a lot of people still very passionately follow the national team but theres little interest or connect with the franchises. Would be good to see some fan initiatives to build some allegiance. I suppose funding remains the issue sadly.

considering i made this joke jersey for me and a couple friends in about 20 minutes (including designing the logo) i really dont understand why Zimbabwe settles for such woeful jerseys. As an avid kit collector (i know its sad) the 90s Zimbabwean kits are amongst my faves and i adore the 99 world cup kit, but the stuff theyve produced of recent years is embarrassing if im honest, has no character to it.

Heck even my old Midlands cricket association jersey (which i cant work out the year of) is a better looking kit than the current zim one.

Talking of that if anyone has any old Zim kits for sale id be interested in them

The one common denominator for mine is all our red and yellow jerseys are the worst.

A few years ago in Sydney there was a controversy when the A league (Australia’s soccer comp) introduced a team with an almost identical colour combo to the North Sydney bears NRL team, a fairly popular heritage club which was banished from the league due to politics and finances,
It caused an uproar as the new west Sydney soccer team was accused of being slightly disrespectful to Sydney (remember that Sydney is Rugby League obsessed) and it was touchy as the bears were looking at ways to return to the top comp.
But anyway, the reason I bring this up is the new Sydney team defended themselves by saying they embarked on a worldwide market research campaign to choose their colours, western Sydney is huge so they were backed to the hilt with funding, and that the colour scheme most popular worldwide with all age groups was black and red and this is why they took the colour scheme. Nothing to do with the bears.

So if black and red is the most popular base colour combo, and we have had some great black and red based zim designs in the past, why did we move away from these beautiful kits that habe t
the best resonation worldwide for sporting colours?
No other cricket nation (maybe HK?) adopts the red and black combo,
So if Zimbabwe are fair Dinkum in trying to look good and make a bit of retail coin with the shirts, why aren’t we looking at capitalising before someone else does?

Ps.
How good nostalgia is watching that?
Cricket has lost a little of its prestige.
