FUTURE PERMANENT CAPTAIN

Post by CholeZimbo »

Seems like we will need to be talking about this soon. Any picks from the current crop excluding the big 4 who will be gone in 2-3 years?

My contender:

Dion Myers - This kid appears to me like someone who can command the dressing room. Has been a leader for most of his life, Headboy at St George's, Cricket and Hockey captain there as well and has captained the U19s at the World cup as well. From what I have seen, he has the talent as well and the next 2 to 3 years playing alongside our greats will do him good.

Myers has just entered international cricket and there’s no guarantee he is committed long term.
Let him learn the ropes first.

By all accounts he’s a smart kid, so yeah, for sure he could be the long term skip from age 24 onward.

But that’s a long time away and probably not worth thinking about just now.

Marumani/Myers still young in squad
Taylor he has a roughed some people at ZC only suitable as a stand in captain
Ervine- perfect choice but injury prone
Williams - test captain
Raza - lose of form and makes questionable decisions
Chakabva (WK)...to much responsibility would not help
Burl -barely in the squad not a regular
Blessing- Not sure if a natural leader

I could see blessing being a captain in about 6 years. He is gonna be in this team a long time barring injuries.

Did you read the OP?

Did you get the spirit of what he was getting at?

Would actually be pretty happy with this. He's a great character. At several times in the recent Tests when we were getting trounced, BT just sort of gave up and looked totally disinterested in the field, and Reggie seemed to take over marshalling the field and encouraging people.

But I doubt he'd be able to keep batting high up the top of the order if he is also captain and keeper. Thats a lot of burden.

I don't like this rotating of captains ..select one captain and make him in charge of taking to the worldcup ..I am still going to go with raza even with his loss of form ..atleast in one dayers ..

If PJ Moor commits to ZC again, improves his form, he'd definitely also be a good choice.
