Hilarious really. The ICC are a joke.

So they are deciding qualification based on rankings. But half the teams in this tournament don't even have an official ODI ranking anyway

If the games Thailand had played against full members in the past few months had been given official ODI status then their ranking would almost certainly have now been above Ireland, Sri Lanka.....and potentially even Pakistan too. They've been completely fucked over here. What a shame.
They do the things deliberately, ICC doesn't give a f**k about associates.

I don't even watch women's cricket and even then just getting to know this blatant rigging just puts me off. Absolute A** H**es

Tough on Sri Lanka as well, they had a realistic chance of making it.

20 teams at next T20 world cup, 14 teams at the ODI world cup...ICC is back to backing the Associates again.

Absolutely, and I’ll applaud them all day for that.

But that’s completely irrelevant to the absolutely inconceivably ridiculous way they’ve dealt with this today.

Poor Thailand. Finished top of their group but been kept out of not only the World Cup but also the next women’s championship (which is qualification for the next next World Cup!) because their ‘ranking isn’t high enough’ despite the ICC not allowing them to get a ranking!!!

So much for globalising the game and for putting women’s cricket on an equal footing to the men’s game.

Only the ICC could shoot themselves in the foot like this. What a wretched sport this is. Certainly the worst administered sport in the world, all over the world at all levels.

Cricket is the ideal sport for these situations. They could have simply upped their testing regime, established a bio-bubble, no fans, stream 100%. Do they forsee a time when covid19 won't be a factor? You adapt and learn to live with it. Funny how some of these teams are evacuating as if they are fleeing the Taliban, fleeing back to their home counties which are themselves experiencing over 5k covid19 cases per day

South Africa "did the right" thing, isolating and sequencing covud19 variants...they identify a new strain and give the world a heads up. Now the entire region is being punished for it. Their summer tours will be cancelled, costing them millions of potential revenue. No good deed goes unpunished

The Omicron strain is already in Europe and the UK and there's no evidence where it originated from yet many of the disengenuous headlines are saying it's from SA.
The Botswana government issued a statement that their Omicron cases were found in 4 previously vaccinated people and that they suspected the vaccines were the cause of this new and supposedly more dangerous mutation. That's a stretch, but we'll hear what the experts say in due course. What a monumental fuck-up that would be- the vaccines against covid now being responsible for a new strain that was actually potentially very dangerous.
Only 6% of Africa is vaccinated, and almost entirely with the 2 Chinese vaccines.
Vaccines don't stop you catching it or spreading it, but supposedly increase your chances of surviving it, when it has a 99.7% survival rate anyway. I'm still bemused at the logic.
Already Astra Zeneca have a new vaccine that has undergone a rigorous 2 week testing program  and is almost ready for market.
Obviously we have to hear from our resident Marxist doctors who carry Fauci pictures in their lockets, but to me it's clear that no vaccine fixes this, and with new strains everyone is going to be coerced into new vaccine shots. We've never gotten rid of flu and we're never getting rid of this.
The only thing we're not avoiding is these people stopping the world going home every Xmas.
Within a few years or less politicians will win elections by promising no masks, no more vaccines and more free shit.

The real question is how those Sri Lankan ladies got covid in a bubble. There are barely any covid cases currently this side. Very strange. I usually triple official covid stats because a lot of people don't get tested but still the numbers are very low even if I do that.

I don't think it's backing the associates, but rather creating breathing space so the teams they want don't miss out.

If it was backing the associates, Thailand would not have been screwed over the way they have been.

I agree with the sentiment behind this theory but really it’s not the teams fault is it? If their governments are banning flights what choice do they have? It’s not really about cricket.

This thread by Bertus rather sums up the ridiculousness of it all.
