Not 'banned' as such.

There is (still) a condition of Full Membership that you enter a women's team into all ICC pathway events. But then they haven't ever entered one ever since being given full membership in 2017, so clearly the ICC never cared, and gave them an unofficial exception.

There was renewed focus and attention on this in light of the Taliban turning up last year, but still no action taken. Afghanistan have not been meeting this clear criteria for five years already but everyone just turns a blind eye.

To be fair, Ireland are also flouting a membership criteria which states Full Members have to run a domestic First Class competition. Ireland haven't since 2019 and are now planning to shelve it long-term.

Imagine if Zimbabwe ever flouted a membership criteria We'd be banned quicker than you can say 'biased'.



In theory, if the ICC ever decided to stick to its own rules and criteria, and stripped the Afghans of Test status, they could of course still play the other format of the game and would still be in World Cup's and U19's as an Associate. Associate membership criteria does explicitly allow an exemption on women's teams for 'cultural reasons'.

It was subtle, but he said they knew what to expect from their bowlers as they'd watched a couple of them on the Big Bash, but had a grin as he said it.

West Indies & Sri Lanka are also in their second season of non FC domestic comp. India as well but apparently that’s starting later. All three have organised white ball comps.
The ICC, which moves slower than glacial melting, would still be dishing out the dough. Especially in Covid affected times. I see issues with the Windies as each island is a country & theoretically quarantine is necessary.
But India & Sri Lanka have held zonal FC comps in he past ( the Duleep Trophy was a staple part of the Indian calendar). That’s all they need to organise. But India appear to be beholden to Ranji Trophy teams & the Lankan to their club team format.
Ireland’s 2019 season was very wet & they had quite a few washouts. Maybe they’ve realised their country is unsuitable for red ball cricket. But still take the money.
