Bangladesh 58 all out
Our all imp Zim-Nz match was not even over and Bangladesh was all out for 58 in 18 plus overs. I was never a fan of Bangladesh and still certain that they are not going to make it to next round. They were thrashed by India, just managed to survive against Ireland and were in total shambles today. They were given the coveted test status too early and looking at the consistency of Ireland i wonder why Bangla continue to play tests when a better team in the form of Ireland is continuously ignored.

Re: Bangladesh 58 all out
I'm disappointed for Bangladesh and the BD fans, it's a poor result. At least it overshadows Zimbabwe's miserable performance today... and I suppose despite being in a horrible position of 7 for 80 or so we still knuckled down and chipped away to get to (a comparatively respectable) 160.

Re: Bangladesh 58 all out
Bangladesh's recent Test record is not all that bad. They've batted better than Pakistan in England and when looking at the last 10 games, have fewer innings defeats than teams like India and South Africa. I don't think a one off performance of 58 all out should be used as a litmus test.

Re: Bangladesh 58 all out
I'm 100% American...born in the city where our Revolution against King George of England began (Boston).
My parents are Bangladeshi. I knew nothing about cricket till I was 14 years old and visited Dhaka, where everyone and their grandmother was jumping up and down about our win vs Kenya at the World Cup qualifying tournament. That was my introduction to cricket, and after I came back to the US, i pretty much forgot about it. Started following from the 2003 World Cup, with our first game being a humiliating 60 run defeat to Canada (of all teams).
You'd be surprised how good some of the "freshies" are with English. I've got relatives who live back in Bangladesh and their command of English is even better than mine.

Dr Situ, this is precisely why one shouldn't criticize an up and coming side for a fluke 58, because a decent team can recover and still be on the verge of the Quarterfinals whereas a team like Kenya's 69 total is not very flukish.

They're a much better, much more settled side in comparison to zimbabwe.

Re: Bangladesh 58 all out
yes, but by definition, they are far more inconsistent. zimbabwe you can pretty much predict what will happen. BD cricket u don't know what will happen. that 58 all out was totally out of the blue because i fully expected a win there. Bangladesh is pretty much developing into a lesser version of Pakistan...albeit they play a clean game.

Re: Bangladesh 58 all out
I don't blame you. It figures, as you are not a fan of Bangladesh and makes you happy and open up a thread when you see Bangladesh are all out in 58. Fortunately or unfortunately, in Bangladesh cricket forum (mainly banglacricket.com), you wont find any thread when Zimbabwe underperform or thrashed by any team other than Bangladesh. My feeling is that, both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe are struggling to be a cricket super power. Both team can improve each other by playing more between them, support each other. I don't know whether in Zimbabwe, there are people that support Bangladesh. But, in Bangladesh there are lots of support for Zimbabwe. Lets wish that Bangladesh make it to the QF. Even if Bangladesh don't make it, still Bangladesh played enough good cricket in the tournament to prove their worth.Dr_Situ(ZimFanatic) wrote:Our all imp Zim-Nz match was not even over and Bangladesh was all out for 58 in 18 plus overs. Well, you can say Ireland is better team than Bangladesh. It's your personal opinion and I have respect for that. But, it's completely wrong. Ireland has shown a great entertainment, but it's more like a one or two man show and they have lost against Bangladesh as well. I truly don't know what makes you think that they can be better test team! If Bangladesh could beat Ireland by higher margin, then probably you wouldn't say that. But, win is a win.

Syed bhai, i had no intention to belittle Bangladesh's performance. Personally i dont like them as a team. I found the Skipper's statement before the Ireland game bit awkward (Not a must-win game for us). Today also Bangla crowd cheered their players:syedmahm wrote:

An inept display against second string SAF bowling attack where only 7 runs were scored in 2nd batting powerplay can bring out such responses from crowd. If 58 was fluke then what about 61/8 on the same ground today. I hope they will improve in future but as far as comparison is concerned they are below Ireland in my opinion. Its sad to see the honeymoon being over for Bangladesh but i think better teams are in quarters. I do not wish to carry forward this personal discussion furtherand wish your team all the best for your future endeavors (except on 4th-8th Aug)Huge cheer from Crowd as total reaches 58/6. That's what Bangladesh made against West Indies
