ZCF greatest hits

Post by brmtaylor.com admin »

Let's try and recall some of ZCF's greatest moments and greatest predictions.

HITS
  • Ervinemania
  • Moormania: "Moormania seems to have increased the bloke's self belief. He must be a regular guest here."
  • Burlmania
  • Murraymania
  • Mumbamania: "Mumbamania also resulted in test caps"
  • Nyumbumania: "Remember there was a Nyumbumania too, which worked well around his debut. Very few failed campaigns to "get them in the team" for sure."
  • Jakiel: "Picking Jackiel from the obscurity of Harare club cricket and carrying him into the national team will be ‘our greatest conquest’"
  • Prediction that Zimbabwe would play Nigeria: "I remember joking 10-12 years ago that we were on our way to playing against Burkina Faso and Nigeria, it seems that prediction is coming to fruition!"
MISSES
  • Couldn't get Matsi and Dabengwa out of the team: "We weren't all that successful in getting Matsi and Dabengwa out of the team in the early years. It seems we can only get guys into the lineup!"
  • Corey van Rensburg - couldn't even get him a FC cap
  • TJS - couldn't even get his name right

We really did get a lot of guys in the team, Jakiel most definitely our greatest triumph. Funny that he would go on to represent Malawi of all places.

Back in the early days of the forum I was convinced they were keeping Dabengwa and Matsikenyeri in the team just to spite ZCF, it was the only explanation! I miss those days of the forum, truly a great time even if the cricket was mostly terrible!
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes
