Taylor available for national selection
OPENING batsman Brendan Taylor who made a brief return to domestic cricket in the fourth round of the Logan Cup in Northerns colours at Alexandra Sports Club would also be available for international commitments if selected, Zimbabwe National team manager Givemore Makoni said.
Makoni added that his appearance for Northerns during which he hit a swashbuckling 95 in his side’s innings and 290 victory over Centrals on Thursday, was based on the agreement that he plays domestic cricket whenever he is free from his contract.
He had just come from playing in Australia.
Taylor will leave Tuesday for England where he will play for Lashings for three months. But should he be called for national duty, Lashings agreed to release him for Zimbabwe. He could be back for one such commitment when Zimbabwe plays in the triangular series in July involving South Africa and India at home.
Taylor is available on the same arrangement as fellow opener Vusimuzi Sibanda who plays club cricket in Australia but would be released to represent Zimbabwe whenever he is selected.

this is great news
sounds like a fair system, he will improve his game overseas and come back to play for zim when the have internationals on, i reckon this should be the same thing with Sean Williams

You mean, the "we could select him but never do during the Aussie season" arrangement? Hopefully they'll be more inclined to actually use that arrangement with Taylor than they do with Sibanda...zimfan1 wrote:Taylor is available on the same arrangement as fellow opener Vusimuzi Sibanda who plays club cricket in Australia but would be released to represent Zimbabwe whenever he is selected.
Re: BIG News Taylor available for national selection
no that's not true as Sibanda has always been available for odi's and t 20's
he wasn't available for the Indian first class tour as that wasn't international cricket

Re: BIG News Taylor available for national selection
I would have thought the experience would be good for sibanda playing in the logan cup as his first class record is nothing spectacular. Only the one first class century, If you look at players like Taibu and masacadza they have about 16 first class hundreds between them

Re: BIG News Taylor available for national selection
This is an obvious system.National team commitments always come first. But when there is no international mathes, players can play in the club cricket overseas. It really sounds very good.Players can improve their game and gain some experience playing club cricket overseas.Taylor will leave Tuesday for England where he will play for Lashings for three months. But should he be called for national duty, Lashings agreed to release him for Zimbabwe. He could be back for one such commitment when Zimbabwe plays in the triangular series in July involving South Africa and India at home.
I guess, many players will be interested to return in Zim after seeing this since they left Zim as they were not allowed to play club leagues in foreign country without board permission and they were not given, just thrown out from the team.It will be a big boost for Zim national side having Brendan Taylor and Sean Williams, both have a healthy ODI average.
He doesnt deserve to be selected ahead of such good batsmen performing currently.Taylor is available on the same arrangement as fellow opener Vusimuzi Sibanda who plays club cricket in Australia but would be released to represent Zimbabwe whenever he is selected.
As far as Vusimuzi Sibanda is concerned,I really dont think he can manage a place
in the national side as there are many batsmen dominating in the domestic scene and players like Vermeulen,Coventry,Williams,Taylor have returned. The stats of Sibanda in the domestic circuit isnt impressive, all of them in the mid 20's and even he hasnt played FC cricket for a good period of time.
Worth noting that,in the past one year Sibanda has scored 235 runs in 14 matches at 16.78 with only a fifty against Kenya. If his two major innings against Kenya(77 & 41) is cut down,I think his batting average will be around 10 or something. Not good for an international batsman.

Re: BIG News Taylor available for national selection
News from the Lancashire League is that the pro for Bacup, Australian Ryan Broad, has not yet arrived in the UK.
BRM will stand in for him for this weekend at least.
I had wondered why he had left Zim to join up with Lashings as they are not due to play their first match until 12th june according to their website.

Re: BIG News Taylor available for national selection
Yes that puzzled me too. Your news seems to explain why BRM Taylor was in a rush to get to the UK! Be a bit of a trek each weekend from Kent if he stays in the Lancashire League for the whole season.
Re: BIG News Taylor available for national selection
thats great news, and a boost to the lineup. i hope the team continues to improve.
