Well, I don't think so. Pricey has returned to Zimbabwe (in Dec, 2007) not to quit/leave but to live in Zimbabwe and play for the team. He is listed in the Northerns squad for the T-20 tournament.

I think, after a long domestic season of Faithwear and Logan Cup, he is given a rest. But probably, just a think.

Well, after a disappointing Faithwear Series and Logan Cup, it seems that Westerns has finally bounced back in the Metropolitan Bank T-20 and qualified for the final. Today Westerns will take on Northerns in the final while Centrals and Easterns will play for the third spot.

I am supporting Westerns. I hope Vermeulen and Coventry will finish the proceedings on high with a winning note and runs under belt so that they can feature in the next ODI squad...

A good fight back by Westerns. Mark Vermeulen is the highest run scorer for Westerns in the match scoring 22 in 15 balls although he was run out. Charles Coventry failed scoring just 4 runs.

Northerns and Westerns win through to final

Northerns and Westerns won through to the final of Zimbabwe's domestic Twenty20 competition. The two teams only won three of their six matches but finished well clear of third-placed Centrals; Easterns, who only last week won the Logan Cup, finished bottom of the pile.

Westerns, who finished bottom in the Logan Cup without a win, had Mark Vermeulen to thank for their reversal of fortune. Returning after a troubled few years when it seemed he would never play at a representative level again, he was by a long margin the leading run-scorer, with 289 runs at 48.16.

He also scored one of only two hundreds - 108 in a remarkable tied game against Centrals - with the other coming from Northerns' Elton Chigumbura.

Westerns surprised all to lift Twenty20 trophy in style


WESTERNS had done everything in the Faithwear Tournament and drew nothing. They entered into the longer version of Logan Cup and still drew a blank. But when they changed venue to Bulawayo from Harare for the T20 fortunes changed and scooped the cup in style beating Northerns by four runs at Queens Sports Club on Saturday.

At the beginning of the tournament nobody gave them a chance. After all they had become the punch bag for all the teams in the league in previous tournaments. But on Saturday they beat Northerns to become the T20 champions for 2009 and they did it in style at Queens Sports Club, invoking memories of when it was beautiful to win in sport.

Fans swamped around the players at the close and enjoyed every bit of it with celebrations that seemed plucked from another planet. After Northerns won the toss and put in Westerns to bat first, it looked a good decision on the Queens wicket.

With Mark Vermuelen in top form, he was elevated to open and quickly made 22 off 15 balls before he was run out by Tatenda Taibu with the score at 38 in 5.3 overs. Captain Keith Dabengwa made 14 before he was trapped leg before wicket by Admire Manyumwa.

But the man who threatened to take away Westerns was bowler Trevor Garwe who took four wickets for just 19 in four overs to ensure Westerns finished on 116 all out, a target that looked easy to chase but Westerns had other ideas.

Mbezeli Mabuza, who had been improving with each game since the beginning of Faithwear series in February took a match winning five wickets for 14 runs in four overs. His spell saw off Elton Chigumbura (6), Cephas Zhuwawo (1), Tafadzwa Mufambisi (0), Graeme Cremer (4) and Sam Mwakayeni (0) to leave Westerns ready for a victory that looked unlikely at the beginning of the tournament.

They eventually made 112 for nine with Tatenda Taibu unbeaten on 28 and Tinotenda Mutombodzi still to score at the end of 20 overs.

At Bulawayo Athletic Club, Easterns got the better of Centrals in the third and fourth play off, winning by 70 runs. Easterns were favourites to win T20 on account of their impressive performance in both the Faithwear and Logan Cup.

Although Chamunorwa Chibhabha hit a quick fire 75 off 34 balls featuring 10 boundaries and three maximums before he was run out by Hamilton Masakadza, his Centrals side still finished fourth in the competition after losing to Easterns.

The Steven Mangongo coached Easterns had Stuart Matsikenyeri to thank for the 65 he made off 38 balls before falling to Remembrance Nyathi.

Big hitting Hamilton Masakadza saw them home with an unbeaten 62 from 29 balls as did Zimbabwe captain Prosper Utseya who made 41 before close. It was a memorable day of cricket extravaganza in Bulawayo.
