Hi guys
Every year we have a T20 tournament in Kwekwe in aid of the Black Rhino. This year there are 10 teams competing on 4 different grounds over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of May. Last year there were 8 teams from Zim and SA but this year we've upped it to include a team from Lusaka and from Vic Falls.
It's an absolutely fantastic tournament and we've had some big names playing; Streak, Blignaut, Rennie, Waller, Strydom, Gripper, Trenchard. This year the Queens guys (whom I play for, badly) are talking to Sikandar who will play if he hasn't other commitments.
If any of the Zim guys reading this aren't doing anything on the weekend of the 23rd and 24th of May then why not make a trip to the best town in the country (true story) and watch some high quality cricket. And for the guys who aren't in Zim, please spread the word and maybe next year we can get a team from the UK and Aus to come.
Thanks for reading!

Is Kwekwe a nice place? Is there much of a white community left?

Kwekwe is fantastic. It's a very relaxed town with a chilled atmosphere. People are often surprised by how friendly it is and how well maintained Kwekwe Sports Club is. There are the obvious signs of the recent difficulties within the town but it's the local attitude that makes it a good place to live. I would recommend staying in Kwekwe to anyone. There's a fairly large community here, quite diverse, not just farmers and a large Asian population as well. Those Queens guys are a good bunch as well but they can be a problem in the bar, you go to the toilet and find they've bought you another 3 beers! To leave the Queens bar is nigh on impossible. The only way you can do it is by saying you're going to the toilet and just head straight to your car!!
Kwekwe is without doubt, the best town in Zimbabwe. And that's coming from a Harare boy...

So there's still a sizeable number of farmers about? Just managing to keep a low profile or have most come to "an arrangement"?
I was hoping to see Kwekwe when I was in Zim. The bus to Bulawayo went to Gweru via a detour through Mvuma though - Mvuma is definitely an interesting town to tick off on the list of places I've been to, but I think Kwekwe would have had more to see.
