Zimbabwe – 185 for 6 in 20 overs (Hamilton Masakadza 49, Vusumuzi Sibanda 35, Richmond Mutumbami 30; Imran Haider 5/21)

Sharjah Cricket Club – 168 for 4 in 20 overs (Rameez Shahzad 65*, Ghulam Shabbir 61; Tendai Chisoro 1/18)

Zimbabwe won by 17 runs.

All-rounder Luke Jongwe suffered a head injury in Zimbabwe’s first practice match at the Sharjah Cricket Ground in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.

While attempting a return catch, Jongwe missed the ball and it hit him above the right eye.

He was taken by ambulance to hospital where an x-ray revealed no damage.

However, as a precautionary measure, he also underwent a magnetic resonance imaging scan.

Because of the possibility of nausea and vomiting, Jongwe was then put on a drip and hospitalised for observation. He will be reviewed today.

On the field, Zimbabwe put up 185 runs for six wickets, with the inform Hamilton Masakadza falling a run shy of a half-century and Vusumuzi Sibanda and Richmond Mutumbami chipping in with 35 and 30 runs respectively.

Imran Haider was the pick of the Sharjah Cricket Club bowlers, claiming a player-of-the-match winning five wickets for 21 runs in four overs.

Chasing, the hosts put up 168 runs for four wickets in their allotted 20 overs, leaving Zimbabwe winners by 17 runs.

Zimbabwe had won the toss and decided to bat.

Zimbabwe will play the Sharjah Cricket Club again on Thursday at the same venue, in a programme rescheduled due to the unavailability of the initial opposition, the United Arab Emirates side, following their progression in the ongoing Asia Cup.

There will be two more practice matches for Zimbabwe at the Sharjah Cricket Ground, this time against the West Indies on Saturday and Monday, before departure for India and two more warm-up matches against Bangladesh on the 4th of March and Ireland on the 6th, under the International Cricket Council (ICC) practice schedule for the World Twenty20 tournament.

The two matches are in Dharamshala.

The Zimbabwe touring party will then go to Nagpur, for their ICC World Twenty20 qualifying Group B matches against Hong Kong, Scotland and Afghanistan.

I wonder how strong that club side is. Imran Haider took 2-23 with his leg-spin in a T20 against England last November (and has played FC cricket in Pakistan).

A bit yes. I am for the expansion of cricket, especially Test cricket, but don't support everyone getting it. Would love to see Ireland and Afghanistan promoted asap. Would like to see Nepal in the mix by 2030. But they should at least be as good as ZIM are now...no use promoting Bermuda for the sake of expansion alone. I think the ICC should focus on trying to get the US and China in on the action. But with natives. Sorry to go Donald Trump, but a hypothetical US world cup or Test squad should be somewhat representative. A team with 95% expats - ie Pakistan Q squad - is ridiculous. I think a 12 team world cup is ideal.

Now to return to topic. ZIM warmups vs Ireland and Bd will be interesting, if that is in fact the schedule.

Sharjah Cricket Club – 135 for 8 for 8 in 20 overs (Shahid Siddique 43; Donald Tiripano 2/20)
Zimbabwe – 183 for 5 in 20 overs (Sikandar Raza Butt 81*, Sean Williams 40; Imran Haider 2/32)
Zimbabwe won by 5 wickets.
Zimbabwe continued their preparations for the ICC World Twenty20 tournament, which begins in India on March 8, with their second practice match against Sharjah Cricket Club (SCC) in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday.
Having opted to bat after winning the toss at the Sharjah Cricket Ground, the hosts were restricted to 135 runs for eight wickets.
Opener Shahid Siddique led the SCC batting with 43 runs before he was trapped leg before wicket by Sikandar Raza Butt.
The next best batsman was Ayoub Inayat who posted an almost a run-a-ball 19 runs in 21 minutes of occupation. His wicket was the second for Donald Tiripano who had earlier dismissed Waheed Waheed (eight), and finished with two wickets for 20 runs in four overs.
There was one wicket each for Raza, Graeme Cremer, Neville Madziva, Wellington Masakadza and Sean Williams as Zimbabwe utilised the match to give as many of their bowlers as possible an opportunity with the ball.
Zimbabwe then set themselves a target of 180 runs to challenge their batsmen. They reached that in their allotted 20 overs, for five wickets.
Leading the chase was Raza who returned with the bat to make an unbeaten 81 runs from 49 balls which included nine boundaries, three of them sixes. He was chosen as the player of the match.
Williams chipped in with 40 runs before he was bowled by Imran Haider, whose spin claimed five Zimbabwe scalps in the first practice match on Tuesday but only two on Thursday, including opener Vusumuzi Sibanda (28) who was adjudged lbw.
Afterwards, the Zimbabwe camp welcomed back all-rounder Luke Jongwe, who was discharged after 48 hours in hospital for observation following a head injury while attempting a return catch during the first practice match.
An x-ray revealed no damage but following a magnetic resonance imaging scan, the neurosurgeon advised hospitalisation for monitoring.
The Zimbabwe squad will take a break today, before two more practice matches at the Sharjah Cricket Ground. These will be against the West Indies on Saturday and Monday.
