I really question Cremer’s captaincy. I don’t know what experience Raza has had, but surely he’d breathe some life into the team? He’s really come on as a player and seems the most energized, enthusiastic guy on the park.
BT obviously is very experienced, but is too quiet and appears to lack motivational skills, not that I think you need to motivate people at this level, but nonetheless I would like to see what Raza has to offer. I watched Flower in the early years and he got it wrong by constantly calling the guys for a huddle when there was a blunder and you could see him berating the guys, but it was out of frustration and when we raised our game he got better at that aspect, and of course he lead by example. I’ve been very frustrated by the last couple of weeks, we actually have a decent side and should be giving a better account of ourselves.

Flower era used to have fast bowling talents inform of Streak, Olonga, Brandish

Genuine Allrounders with 100% in both bat & ball : Travis Friend, Andy Blignaut, Neil Jhonson, Guy Whitall

And then a quality spinner in form of Paul Strang, Adam Huckle, Ray Price

All these players earned massive respect as they played aggressively, had the capability of taking 20 wickets in test troubling the best of the game and shown some fight despite facing stronger teams.

Present Team has got 60% batting talent, 5% in fielding and 2% in bowling. Quality has completely gone out from Zimbabwe Cricket with politics, quota, strike, financial crisis.

Back in the subject I think it could be Nyasha Mayavo, quite simply because he is ‘apparently’ the best keeper in the country and whilst his batting is poor Regis’ batting and keeping has been dire.

I think we could also see Ngarava in the Boxing Day Test

A bowling attack of Mumba/Muzarabani, Chatara, Jarvis could definitely challenge the South Africans

 Ask Bangladesh and Mustafizur + Taskin.

Elgar, Markram, Amla, Bavuma, AB, Faf(c), QdK(wk), Philander, Maharaj, Rabada, Steyn

AB will go straight into the XI too. Only change will likely be Faf if still injured, and Elgar gets the captaincy with Phehlukwayo coming in at 8.

Philander and Steyn are fit again and Ottis Gibson is dead set on giving them match fitness against Streak's Zimbabwe.

I was hoping they'd pick a different team but unlikely.

Forget the main Proteas side or A side. Streak's Zimbabwe would get crushed by a "quota" South Africa.

Mnyanda, Mokoena, Ramela(c), Bavuma, Zondo, Mgijima, Mosehle(wk), Phehlukwayo, Rabada, Phangiso/Siboto, Ngidi

NB: I find it disturbing that you guys are so eager to let young African youngsters(Mumba, Ngarava etc) get damaged like that, but not so eager to pick Kasuza ahead of Burl, or Mashinge ahead of Sean Williams against the Proteas.

That quota side would lose to Fiji

OK, let me clarify. The intention of this thread was not to focus on who "should" get the next test cap, but who "might", based on the management's thinking. We may or may not agree with that of course.

Having said that, I'm fine with Mire getting his cap. Was well worth the gamble.

I doubt Steyn will be fit enough by Boxing Day. There is no first class cricket in South Africa between now and then, it would be hugely risky to rush him in with only T20 cricket under his belt recently.

As for that black SA side, the bowling is decent but the batting is awful.
