wouldnt ou have them 1 and 2 to see out the ball when its at its most dangerous, swinging around and quick?

unless of course your a trevor gripper or greg lamb type who can just wear the shine of the ball......

hey ...greg lamb at opener..... theres an idea.
Your best batsmen come in at four and five after the shine has gone off the new ball, to protect them. So presumably your openers are there chiefly to slog on as long as possible, then the artists -- Brian Lara, Sachin Tendulkar, and Andy Flower -- cash in.

Everybody is vulnerable against the new ball, so it makes sense to use your best to your advantage. Of course it helps if your best batsman can play the new ball superbly, such as Ricky Ponting of Australia, which is why he comes in at 3.

I think Tatenda Taibu is grossly overrated as a batsman in the Zimbabwean team as they are at least three batsmen better, namely Taylor, Masakadza, Sean Williams...

He has a solid technique, yes, but his temperament is his greatest asset. He would make a superb number six batsman, maybe five, as we have many talented players from number one to five.

I would bat at Hammy at three. I get the feeling Taylor struggles against quality fast fowlers on seaming surfaces; he could be so much better used in the middle order, preferably at five.

So I think: 1. Hammy can still open (your most reliable and assured)
2. Vusi Sibanda (can he replicate domestic form into international cricket?)
3. Sean Williams (because he is so dynamic and adaptable)
4. Sean Ervine (your best batsman)
5. Brendan Taylor (class; we want more substance)
6. Tatenda Taibu (the person most likely to stall collapses, consolidate and rebuild)
7. Elton Chigumbura (to press on; it’s a good sign to have a player of his calibre batting at
seven

I know exactly where you're coming from in terms of Tatenda Taibu. Yes he has a good technique, but how many times have we seen him get out sweeping the ball when he's expected to stay in....
I'm going to re-think what my batting line up would be. I'd now like to see:

1. Mazakadza
2. Taylor
3. Williams
4. S.Ervine
5. C.Ervine
6. T.Taibu (Wkt)
7. E.Chugumbura (Cpt)
8. A.Blignaut
9. G.Cremer
10. R. Price
11. K.Jarvis / T. Chitara / A.Ireland

Taibu has been moved around the order a lot, due to his talent and also to his detriment as well. How many times has he been slotted in to up the run rate, resulting in premature loss of his wicket? Taibu sweeps better than anyone in the squad and he's quick between wickets, all he needs is less pressure stall a collapse; he needs to be there to avoid the appearance of it in the first place. The upcoming Logan Cup will be crucial, if Sibanda maintains good form I think he'll be in at 3 in Tests. His inclusion in the Intercontinental squad seems to confirm this line of thinking. Taibu at 4 might stop panic setting in. Williams, the Ervines (if Sean returns), Ballance, Lamb etc add to the middle order strength.

A talented batsman but a modest, hardworking character, Stuart Matsikenyeri is the third of three school friends from Churchill Boys High School, Harare to represent Zimbabwe in international cricket. - Cricinfo.

Well I am only going on what I have read about Taibu, I don't watch many Zimbabwe games, but what I have seen Taibu is a very good batsman.

I've said for a long time on here that Lamb should be used as a player to stop a colapse.  . He shouldn't have a set position, he should come in when two quick wickets have gone down

I was just going to say. In my opinion, that's one of our best looking sides. Why should Matskinyeri be in the side ???????? He's crap and does NOT deserve a place in any Zimbabwean side. And to put Twanda Mupariwa in the side is a huge backwards step. I dont agree with Sibanda being at 5 either

you pick players based on their ability,

if thats 1 white players so be it.
If its 11 black players so be it.

If its 10 chinese and one arab so be that too.

A simple concept thats hard for many africans to understand.

Zim has a lot of black players anyway, now and for the future, as compared to South Africa. If there has to be more, then then they have to be picked on merit. As a black African we have to accept that there are white, colouerd, arabic africans, but we all Africans.

exactly shumbat,
no one likes tokenism.

Worldwide, people wont respect players who didnt make it on merit.

And neither will senior black players like Elton who have done it all themselves.
