I dont understand the selectors favourtism of Matsikenyeri/Dabengwa. They get a good score once in a blue moon and are thus retained in the team. Which kinda indicates that the form players like Taibu/Masakadza/Chibhabha are carrying them a little bit.
If anyone should be released to play club cricket over the winter it should be dabengwa/Matsikenyeri just so they can brush up on their skills. If sean williams had as many low scores as these guys I wonder if he would have had the chop a little bit sooner..Hmmm
At this moment,the class players of Zimbabweas current squad are Raymond Price and Tatenda Taibu along with Hamilton Masakadza who is improving day by day.The two opening pace bowlers Rainsford and Mupariwa have also showed their class too in the recent series against Sri Lanka.
In my opinion,the captaincy should be given to a player who is experienced enough to can lead the team and encourage all the guys.The present captain Prosper Utseya used to make tactical mistakes in the match and he isnt experience enough too.Despite having a good economy rate in ODI,he isnt taking wickets consistently.
On the contrary,Raymond Price is the most experienced player of Zimbabwe.He has played 18 test matches and taken 69 wickets with an average of 35.86 and best figure 6/73.He enjoyed a superb year in 2003-04,taking 33 wickets at 22.42 in five Tests against Australia,West Indies and Bangladesh,including three five wicket hauls.He was in his early stage of his ODI career when he joined the rebels back in 2004.Although 25 wickets in 42 ODIs doesnt do justice with his talent.He has the experience of playing with class former players of Zimbabwe likes of Andy Flower,Grant Flower,Goodwin,Johnson,Campbell.He is the witness of the golden time of Zimbabwean cricket.He has also represented Worcestashire in the English county cricket from 2004 to 2007.This experience will really help him in the prospective of captaincy of Zimbabwe.He has really encouraged the young guys in the ODI series against Sri Lanka.Raymond Price should be made the captain of Zimbabwe.
