[quote="brmtaylor.com admin"]I think ZIMDOGGY hit the nail on the head with everything he said. Seriously, if you're close to age group honours in NSW then you're probably already in the top percentile of Zim cricketers your age. If you can deal with the internal politics then you'll probably make it - at the very least - to the top tier of club cricket, and probably to FC selection. I'll just pluck a name out of thin air - Remembrance Nyathi: http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/ ... 35486.html - averages 19 after 40 odd games. If you're close to NSW age group selection then sight unseen I'd wager you're a better batsman than he is. There's a number of his ilk at FC level and heaps more at club level.

In the real good old days (like the Faithwear series of 2006) - and I'm saying this with a straight face - I reckon a ragtag group of random ZCF'ers who've played at no higher level than backyard cricket or street cricket, like eugene's annual ZCF XI, would have had respectable stats in Zim domestic cricket. Honest to God there were some bonafide no-hopers playing in the domestic league back then. By comparison it's much better now, but I think Zimbabwe is by a long, long stretch the easiest country in the world to break into the FC scene.

The biggest problem will be how far $6k will go IMO. You could live like a king for a few weeks. But if you want to play internationals you'll need to support yourself for 4 years so that could be tough.

And as Jemisi said, if you go ahead with it ZCF will cheer you on. And it would be a really interesting experience for sure, Zimbabwe is a good country with good people... even if you don't get what you want out of it cricket wise, I think you'd take away some amazing memories. Good luck.[/quote

Back in 2005/6 I had thoughts of giving it a go over there. Was averaging 45 with the bat and 12 with the ball in first grade park cricket. I flattered myself that I could have knocked a lot of blokes over like Dabengwas 7/1 effort.

Finally! Had a net the other day and gave my son some serious chin music.

He is only 7 but his birthday is next week.

Jemisi- tell that to Diplock!
I don't think it's that easy. There's not that much club cricket going on so hard to make a name for yourself with bat or ball and even someone miraculously does, they still have to get the nod from a franchise team. These guys are reluctant to replace the guys they know who can play for someone who might not step up. There's so few list A and FC games they're not willing to take a chance. Who actually selects the franchise sides anyway? I don't think there's much autonomy there either and I'm willing to bet that the side needs the blessing of Big Brother.
