Let's take heart from the fact that Steyn has only taken one legitimate wicket today.

Of course Mawoyo was a better option with daylight separating him and Vusi. Chigs was also ahead of Regis, once Regis goofed up his opportunities last month. Definite miss in selection, need not be hindsight.jaybro wrote:In hindsight Mawoyo and Chigumbura may have been better options then Regis and Vusi although it's easy to say this after the fact .....
Hopefully the guys who failed can make amends in the 2nd innings .....
But we lost 3 guys in who had reached their 20s to the New Zealander. We are playing two teams at once here.

This day could have been so better with better umpiring decisions

Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v South Africa: Only Test
Despite the bad umpiring, 248/9 is still a good day of batting, and a result most of us would have taken at the beginning of the day. I truly feared that we were going to get rolled for 70 and South Africa would already be 300-1 by the end of the day.

Could also have been a hell of a lot worse. Surviving the day given the gap between the two sides is an achievement.CrimsonAvenger wrote:This day could have been so better with better umpiring decisions

Really happy with the batting display today. Pity Taylor couldn't go on to get his century, he certainly deserved it. Hopefully Tiripano and Nyumbu can hang around for a few overs tomorrow morning just to annoy South Africa even more.
Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v South Africa: Only Test
Well, first things first. We made it through a day of batting against SA. That is pretty good.
Very sorry Taylor lost his head, he played a fine innings with all of the pressure on him to carry the team and he did it. He didn't best Steyn, but he wasn't bested by him.
Hami did a great job up front.
Apart from Vusi and Regis everyone chipped in in some way. And let's face it, you are always going to have a couple of fails.
We were hurt by the umpires. Probably had 1 or 2 go for us, but 4 against.
Williams showed his quality, pity he was cut short. Richmond did well. Put on the biggest partnership of the innings with Taylor.
And yes, the indomitable Tiripano, facing over 11 overs of bowling and remaining undefeated.
Would really like us to hang around a little longer tomorrow.

Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v South Africa: Only Test
I thought Hammy and Vermuelen's effort to see off the new ball really set the platform for the rest of the batsmen as well. Much easier for the likes of Taylor and Williams to come in when the ball is not moving around as much as the shine has gone off it. So many times you see Zimbabwe 2/not many after only a couple of overs.
Re: [Match Thread] Zimbabwe v South Africa: Only Test
Yeah they got us through plenty of tough balls.
