Maruma is extremely talented. I doubt he picks up a cricket bat in his free time. If I were a selector his name would be in the hat simply because hes capable of this level of cricket.
But, he seems to be just going thru the motions.
Has weighed up the odds of being selected by looking around and assessing and decided its not worth giving it one last big push. If he ever did push in the first place. I'd suspect he relied a lit on his natural ability.
These senior players also have an inside track as to what's going on behind the scenes.

A lot of the guys here just shoot for being marginally better than their peers to get selected, there's no goal of being world class.
