The Rocks are as solid as rock. They still got Craig Ervine left, see?

Its kinda sad in a way when the sean ervine topic is the fourth most talked about discussion in the forum ( though im not helping in putting this post lol)

Zimbabwe cricket is currently littered with rough diamonds waiting to be polished ( especially bowling) back at home, Lets concentrate on them not on a county Journeyman

I haven't bothered to comment on this post at all up until now. But what I do gather is a strong sense of bitterness towards Sean, and a kind of satisfaction in his failures so far. However, in drawing conclusions, one really needs to look at the bigger picture. Not everything centres around international cricket. What we want to have is a strong and attractive domestic structure. That way more money will be thrown into cricket, more stadiums will be built, and cricket will genuinely become a decent profession in Zim with no need for the guys to run off and play overseas, except in the offseason. The ages of a lot of top guys present locally and abroad, means that on average their remaining lifespan in cricket is at most 6 years so that can discourage their rejoining the ranks. But we've seen with Delta throwing in money, that some businesses are coming into the game, as well as the Eagles cash boost. That can only get better with those players being convinced to come back and them getting competitive salaries. At the end of the day it's good for the competitiveness of our local setup.

Most of you will be quick to point out that we don't need some of them or that they are over the hill. But if you look long and hard, there's no doubting that most of the guys who have left or slipped out of the game have enough class or quality to take up the majority of the spots in our franchises. Think of the following few, and you can personally add to that list:
Batsmen
Cameron, Ballance, Ebrahim, Barney Rogers, Vermeulen, Neil Ferreira
Bowlers
Ireland, Friend, Watambwa
Allrounders
Sean Ervine, Colin de Grandomme, Blignaut

Bar obviously those italicised, these guys would easily walk into a lot of our franchises and appear consistantly in the top 10 or 15 performers of their respective categories. Regardless of what job they are doing now, off-season training would be enough to get them to displace the majority of the players there right now. The spin-off with family and relatives, interest from friends and other decent players with whom they've made ties. These people will have an excuse to visit Zim, and want to play in Zim. Broadcasters will follow suite. Trust me, with the weather, sights and a whole host of other things, we've got greater potential to have a trully great domestic league than even SL, NZ, Pak & Ban. We might even challenge SA as most of us here can see that there's very little interest from international players to feature there bar a certain ailing Pietersen.

With what I have learnt over the past few days I dont take issue with Sean anymore. ZC is unscrupalus and most of the blame we place on the players is because the head is rotten. WHY would someone make such a decision at such a time going towards the biggest stage in Cricket, in India of all places. WHY would Sean williams decide to go play HOCKEY. The head is rotten and it is affecting the rest of the body. I really feel for the players who dont have Sean's option.

Zimbabwe Cricket is still toxic and I imagine the upcoming elections would play a role in the decisions of foreign based players. They wisely are probably taking the wait-and-see approach when it comes to Zimbabwe. There could be bloodshed at the elections and ZC could be overrun with ZANU-PF thugs again.

i am glad to see that ZCF members are now realising the problem in Zim Cricket. How can we expect to keep top players when in the first year of Franchise cricket the top players were getting $6000 a month, last year $3000 a month and this year with the contract already being shorten by a month the top players will only get $1500. This is a year after a world cup where we are meant to get money in. What will the players be offerred next year. This will definately not encourage players to stay and I very much doubt that many county players will come out to play like we had last year. Where is the money going - maybe into bayhaus Dominus Conspiracy.
Also note that the new bowling find Vitori was on a salary of $200 a month. Maybe thats was the board will say has made him hungry to improve.

What a shame, i guess the theory is for Franchises to get companies to fund salaries, on Zimbabwean terms $1500 is money, but at test level they guys should be at par with maybe the lowest paid. Anyone with data to show how salaries during the time of GF, Andy compared with other countries then. I reckon $6000 for the top guys should be the target. Vitori will now get a rise with his performances, its hard for guys from small towns to get a good wage unless they really prove themselves or move to play in Harare.
