NZ's Plunket Shield is better than our Logan Cup, judging from the vast superiority of the NZ national team to ours, but it's not by much when both sets of nationals are away.

Consider this very game. The three frontline seamers for CD comprise Jarvis, Bevan Small(19) & Steven Smidt(22), both barely into their 3rd or 2nd FC matches respectively. Despite their virtually non-existant experience, they're doing very well against some seasoned batsmen. Contrast that with how seasoned top campaigners like Arnel, Aldridge & Vettori together with NZ's top new young seamer Boult, have easily handled CD's batting order, and the gulf in quality between both sets of attacks becomes apparent.

Coming back to Jarvis' own standard, when you read further into those two, it can be argued that they've performed just as well if not better than Jarvis considering their inferiority in terms of age and experience. Small last played a FC match close to 12 months ago, while Smidt had just 24 overs behind him having debuted 4 months ago in a forgetable match. ND have just 3 notable batsmen in Hamish, Vettori & Watling, only Small the 19yr old has had success against them. For such raw youngsters, the control they've displayed in comparison, along with their penetration and economical spells shows that they deserve commendation. But at the same time it can be argued that it proves two things - Jarvis is not that good, and the Plunket Shield is not much better than the Logan Cup.

You know you are allowed to admit that Jarvis has bowled well while still thinking he isn't that good. He picked the wickets of 5 top order batsmen including James Marshall twice, Brad Wilson twice, and veteran Joseph Yovich. He also picked up the middle order wicket of Hamish Marshall. This Northern Districts side is full of quality players with 8 New Zealand internationals in the lineup including the Marshall twins who would walk into the Zimbabwean lineup. If you followed NZ cricket at all you would recognise most of the players as NZ cricket is blessed with many long serving domestic level players of a solid calibre, unlike this here one season gone the next nature of players in the Logan Cup. Plus Jarvis had a better economy rate than the two other bowlers you mention plus he picked up wickets. Where is the commendation for Jarvis' penetration and economical spells?

He will find a way. Jarvis could have figures of 1.4overs, 1 maiden, 0 runs, 10 wickets and it still wouldn't be good enough.

He only took those 10 wickets because of the suffocating pressure induced by Ed Rainsford's miserly spell off 2-0-5-0 at the other end... That much should be obvious to anyone who glanced at the scorecard. Furthermore, The last 5 of those wickets were all lower order players, so shouldn't really count...

That is hilarious. Don't forget the immense pressure Panyangara put on the batsmen in the field. The batsmen chose to get out to Jarvis as they dreaded facing the mighty Panyangara.
