MATABELELAND Tuskers Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Association Cricket League entered the third round with Emakhandeni topping the log.
The league match played at Bulawayo Athletic Club pitting Emakhandeni and Crescent, was disrupted by the rains with the former needing nine runs to win from the remaining 27 overs, chasing a target of 126 runs. The match was played over 50 overs.
Emakhandeni were declared winners through the Dark-worth Lewis method. Spin bowler, John Nyumbu, Keith Dabengwa and Mbekezeli Mabuza inspired Emakhandeni to victory.
Mabuza has recovered from the injuries he sustained from a car accident in August.
According to an official at Tuskers, Mabuza will soon be competing for a place in the provincial team.
“The doctors have certified him fit to play cricket. He should be fighting for a jersey soon. It is good that he has fully recovered and we are hoping that his presence will add value to the provincial team,” said the official.
Crescent, made up of up-and- coming stars and Christian Brothers College (CBC) students, missed the services of Terence Duffin.
The match at Queens Sports Club between Queens and BAC was washed out.
Queens were all out for 220 runs while BAC were at 72 runs having lost three wickets after 15 overs.
The weekend results meant that Emakhandeni displaced BAC at the summit having amassed 17 points from six outings.
BAC are second with 15 points from the same number of games while Queens are third with six points. Crescent anchor the log with five points.
Most of the provincial team players featured for their clubs.
BAC duo of Charles Coventry and Christopher Mpofu and Queens’ hard-hitting batsman Mark Vermeulen missed the matches as they are in Bangladesh with the national team.
