Only 2 Under 19 players got contract in franchise cricket

Post by The Robot »

Out of the 15 members that represented Zimbabwe Under 19 in ICC Under 19 World Cup in Bangladesh, 2016 only 2 of them got contract from the franchises to play first class Cricket.

Mavuta ---- Rhinos

Mashinge ----- Mountaineers

What about the rest ????

Does Mavuta & Mashinge left studies to take cricket as career ?? :)

Any of them selected to warm in the bench or carry drinks in this domestic season ?? :)

Stoneman account #4?

Thing is,
The situation that is unique to Zimbabwean cricket is there players don't make themselves available to play for Zimbabwe

As usual I'm at a complete loss as to why anyone would think that U19 talents would give up the chance of an education and future career to play cricket in Zimbabwe, perhaps someone would be kind enough to explain exactly what I'm missing

A couple of points here... Firstly, how many of those guys wanted a franchise contract, but didn't get one? Secondly, it's likely that uncontracted players will be required to play on occasion, so if any of these blokes are in the country and are interested in playing, the fact that they don't have a contract doesn't mean that they won't play at all.

Except Snyder, every players are there, as they were the part of recently held " Africa Cup 2016 "

Mavuta and Mashinge were given development contracts which eqaute to a grade E contract not a real incentive to stay in the game. The lads will be looking to play club cricket in the UK in April if there is no cricket. Mavuta has turned down an offer from Nambian powerhouse club Wanderers to play in the T20 tournament to fight for a spot at the Rhinos.

Played a game against the Katundu kings saw Synder,Evans, Ives and when i probed them of Franchise interest they said they need to be approached but no real longterm interest as yet.

Gargamel- what's a Grade E contract? How much a month?
All this talk of Streak and Taibu making changes is just a load of nonsense, they're just collecting their wage and have no intention of upsetting their bosses.
Most of the boys have no faith in the system. If they had the Brents heading up another team where they had their own budget and had to pick at least 6 promising younger guys there might be some interest.

You are right that Streak is only interested in lining his pockets and cares little for progress. My mate Taibu though is more idealistic and wants to make changes, he just isn't battle hardened. I try to set him straight though! I am trying to teach him all I know.

And Watermelon, here is your moment!
You are rich (you've told us how well you eat & your material possessions).
You are connected.(you've told us).
You are knowledgeable(yep, you've told us).
Here is the time you could be the well to do philanthropist that Zimbabwe is looking for. You could be the African Allan Stanford.
With this inside power, wealth & knowledge, you could punt the thieves from the admin & dictate yourself so your favorite players can get the fair go they deserve.
And create the tiers of cricket so young players will see their path to international fame & riches.
Do it man!
Your country needs you!
Zimbabwe cricket needs you.
Although, Mr Taibu may be a trifle compromised to explain how he is connected with a person in a dodgy import/export business.
But what the hell. The yanks were selling vehicles, tyres, oil & weapons to the Nazis till 1943. The wealth of Trump, the Clintons & the Bush's are loaded with conspiracy theories. Go for it.
What's the worst that could happen.

I have helped these young cricketers as much as I can. I have invited young club players around to my place to make me dinner, I have even left some US$100 notes around my property and let them walk around looking for them. I like helping people, but they need to work for it - too many blacks in Zimbabwe want the fruits of liberation through no sacrifice of their own. Although I must admit that once I got them to look for money that I hadn't even placed around the property, even the strongest of us have our weak moments!
