What is Bangladesh doing that we are not?
I have been very impressed by Bangladesh's recent victories in Sri Lanka. a team that easily dismantled Zim in Zim. I then did some digging and saw that on the batting front especially with the senior batsmen( Mahmudullah, Shakib, Mushfiqur and Tamim) there is not much of a difference in terms of averages.
Shakib and Craig Ervine both average about 35. Tamim and Mahmudullah both average about 33. Williams and Mushfiqur average about 32.Raza is on about 31. Masakadza is further back on about 28. Brendan Taylor is on about 35 as well.
I'm not 100% sure but to the best of my knowledge their salaries should be around the same ( I saw an article showing the A+ contract in Bangladesh pays about $2500 a month so our guys might actually be getting more!) and we are playing a similar amount of games. so how on earth is Bangladesh that much further than us? my biggest concern is why in recent times the likes of Tamim are becoming reliable yet our players are getting more inconsistent by the day?
do they just not have the spine for it? our conditions might not be the best but the difference in class right now should also not be this big. our senior guys have to look in the mirror and ask themselves how we have gotten here. or it the board again that we must blame?

Interesting observation. Whilst we all use stats as the universal yardstick to gauge a player's ability, cricket is not played on paper. Compare McCullum and BT- there's only 3 runs difference in their Test average. Is 3 runs significant? There's no denying who is the more destructive batsman. If you don't get McCullum out you'll probably lose the game, BT is somehow less imposing. Botham only averaged 33, yet he was one of the great players of the game. Much has to do with depth of the team and the real grit and never say die attitude of some of the key players. The fact is that if more of our national players were made of the right stuff they wouldn't put up with the shit dished out by ZC. Maybe ZC have inadvertently set the bar to the right level whereby the alphas won't tolerate their crap? Food for thought.
Re: What is Bangladesh doing that we are not?
If a privately owned corporation attempted to treat their employees in the manner in which ZC have treated most of their employees there would be a hue and cry, followed by industrial action, possible destruction of property, the involvement of rabid trade unions, legal repercussions etc. If it were white owned or run it would be doubly calamitous. It's bemusing that these guys still hold the reins, our football is no different either. If only the aggrieved parties could pretend ZC admin was white!

Re: What is Bangladesh doing that we are not?
In the last ODI, BD had a combined experience of 901 matches to SL's 587. A massive gap of 314 matches and they used it to their advantage. Also, SL is in disarray. They are just playing musical chairs with a squad of 30 for over a year now, randomly picking and choosing 15 from this 30 instead of investing on some of them properly. IT would be a miracle if they are not whitewashed in the ODI series.
And if you look at the momentous knocks by the Zimbo and BD individuals, it came in the same match where Coventry hit 194* and Tamim 154 to win it for BD. Where is Coventry today and where is Tamim? Not sure what Tamim has changed in his approach, but he has been insanely consistent, must have put in hours and hours of hard work to cut out low percentage shots. He was more frustrating that the present day Sarkar at the beginning of his career, but look at how he has progressed. Our guys don't get enough quality game time, do not get enough continuity (both locally, I'm not even calling for international games), and lose focus I guess.

Re: What is Bangladesh doing that we are not?
Zimbabwe got full member status back in 1992, whereas Bangladesh in 2000, but the success Zimbabwe got as a new team in world cricket was much more then Bangladesh. Zimbabwe use to play thrillers and win quite a few matches against teams like India, Pakistan, England, New Zealand whereas they had competative fight with stronger teams like South Africa & Australia.
If that team of golden era would have continued to play for Zimbabwe, then we would have found some " Legends" in global stage. Andy Flower, would have finished top run getters among the wicket keepers, Streak with 400 test scalps, Neil Johnson would have stand on the likes of Kallis, Cairns. Sean Ervine, Blignaut, Guy Whitall would have earned the name of biggest smashers in world cricket, a group of class allrounders one like to have specially in T20s and last of all Mr. AB Devillers, Dilshan, Kevin Petersen has invented new shorts in shorter formats like 360 degree, Dil Scoop and Switch Hit, Zimbabwe had a player called " Douglas Marillier" who started introduction of peculiar shorts in shorter format back in early 2000, by now he would have been regarded as the inventor of all such exciting shorts in modern game
Zimbabwe were a developing side and were very common team to take part in exciting " tri nation or quadrangular odi series " back in 90s and early 2000 and should have been mid ranked team now, unless that 2003 " racial political anarchy" would have been taken place that proved to be like a " NUCLEAR ATTACK " on Zimbabwe Cricket, where months, days & years will go but no development will take place and struggle will continue.

Re: What is Bangladesh doing that we are not?
Well it looks like our Test win vs SL is under the scanner from the ACU for some fixing related issue. I don't think it will amount to much as Bangladesh clearly out-played SL in all 3 departments after a listless performance in the first Test. Also the SL player in question apparently came forward or something. The suscipicion lies in a phone call he received from the US. At any rate, the SL team that took the field is missing a lot of key players: Matthews, Chameera, Dickwella, and K Perera. That being said, the margin of defeat indicates it may not have much of a difference.
BD player's top central contracts are worth $2500 US per month (30,000 per annum) but the likes of Shakib makes $500,000-600,000 from IPL, BPL, DPL, match fees, etc. Tamim and Mushfiq probably net $150,000 total.
We have two things going for us: a large volume of cricket players playing the game and a decent amount of money being pumped in due to the popularity of the sport. We are also developing a culture of cricket where senior players pass on wisdom to the young guns. Ie Mosaddek will have a smoother transition than Tamim/Mushfiq/Shakib had 10 years ago.
We still have flaws in the way the game is run...for example we have not had any A team cricket in over 2 years I think...I can't even remember the last series we had. But we do have a strong domestic schedule with NCL, BCL, BPL, and DPL...4 leagues that make sure players are constantly on the park.

Re: What is Bangladesh doing that we are not?
Hmmm why aren't we going as good as Bangladesh?
Geez that's a tough one.ill take a few guesses.
1. I imagine that established national team members don't retire at 24 years old to work as car salesman.
2. I'd imagine that Bangladesh didn't embark on a ethnic purge to remove the primary culture who played and founded the cricketing scene. Big coincidence we dropped just after that took place.
3. I'm sure Bangladeshi players don't whine about racism when they are dropped
4. Is imagine the BCB don't forget to organise domestic competitions
5. I'd imagine that when the ICC gives Bangladesh their annual grant, it goes to cricket and not cocktails
6 id imagine that Bangladesh feel they need to perform to stave off competition from up and coming juniors, as they no doubt actually have juniors coming through still. Which Zimbabwe don't

I'd also imagine that a 7 yr old blagladeshi kid dreams of growing up to play for Bangladesh, instead of England and the West Indies
