second-string India squad for the ODI tri-series in Zimbabwe

Post by jamthala »

indian board make this tour very unintresting by picking this team

Suresh Raina will lead a second-string India squad for the ODI tri-series in Zimbabwe and the Twenty20s which follow, with Virat Kohli as his deputy. Among the first-choice players who are either rested or injured are regular captain MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar, Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra, Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh and Praveen Kumar.

The selection committee's decision to leave out experienced players provides an opportunity for youngsters to get a taste of international cricket. Those getting a look-in include seamers Pankaj Singh and Ashok Dinda, and Madhya Pradesh wicketkeeper Naman Ojha.

Dinda did reasonably well in the IPL, picking nine wickets in seven games, at an economy rate of 6.56, and Pankaj grabbed the limited opportunities he got with Royal Challengers Bangalore. This is the first call-up for Naman Ojha, whose 377 runs in the IPL was one of the silver linings of Rajasthan Royals' disappointing campaign.

Three Indian spinners who had outstanding IPL campaigns - legspinner Amit Mishra, left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha and offspinner R Ashwin - have also been picked. Legspinner Piyush Chawla, who was chosen ahead of all three for the World Twenty20, is not part of the one-day side but will join the squad for the Twenty20s.

The tri-series, also involving Sri Lanka, kicks off in Bulawayo on May 28, with the Twenty20s on June 12th and 13th.

Squad: M Vijay, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Suresh Raina (capt), Virat Kohli (vice-capt), Rohit Sharma, Yusuf Pathan, Ravindra Jadeja, R Ashwin, Umesh Yadav, Vinay Kumar, Ashok Dinda, Pankaj Singh, Amit Mishra, Pragyan Ojha, Naman Ojha

Note: Piyush Chawla will join the squad for the Twenty20s

It is still a very good squad and zim will have to play their best to beat them and if the wickets are supporting the spinners, the combination of (P.Ojha,R.Ashwin,A.Mishra) is more dangerous than (P.Utseya,R.Price,G.Cremer) and the fact that the indians play spin better than zim will surely help the Indians.
It is important to stand up for what is right.

I disagree. I think our spin attack is just as powerful, if not better, than the Indian attack. We've got left and right arm offspin bowlers and a legspinner who's in top form. I reckon if our spin attack fires, we could beat these youngsters from India. Though i have to say, any Indian side at the moment seems to be a side full of confidence. We'll have to clean up on certain areas, AKA, the batting !

I would like to believe the Zim spin attack is a better unit as they have tremendous amount of experience now, especially Pricey and Prosper.

But with respect to the spin options of India, I don't know what to say, I feel it could very well be stronger than the current Indian spin attack. On form, Ojha and Ashwin look definitely better than Harbhajan and Chawla. :(

u guys must be fooling yourselfs our spin trio better than india's u must be joking.we do have good spin combinations
in price and utseya and long term wise utseya and creamer.it is very difficult to attack from both ends with spin unless u got muri and mendis thats y prosper is key to the team and he is comfortable bowling anytime in the team when he opens he chips in with a wicket.creamer is a very good attacking bowler its waste to ask him to do defensive bowling like warne when would u c shane bowling jst to stop the runs.he would look for the wicket...as for price like most left armers change of angle will help them attack or defend..but to say he better than the indian trio..no chance
creamer will improve no doubt
prosper will get pressure wickets.
price will do u with drift, turn, pressure or your technical frailties
