cameron would reject call up

Post by jimbo »

DESPITE being a proud Zimbabwean, James Cameron wants to make his mark in England rather than playing Test cricket for his homeland.

The 25-year-old is making his way on the county circuit after arriving at Worcestershire last year.

But as he makes improvements here, the all-rounder says that he has no plans to return to Zimbabwe should they come calling.

“At this moment I would remain here — I’m very happy,” said Cameron, who scored his maiden first-class century in the final match of last season against Sussex to help seal the County’s poromotion. “I have still got things to prove here.

“I don’t see a point in going to play Test cricket when I haven’t stamped my foot down in first-class cricket.”

Having played at Under 19s level for Zimbabwe, Cameron says that many of his fellow countrymen would much rather be in his position — playing top-flight championship cricket.

“I have always said that Zimbabwe will always be my home,” he added. “But I have been out of the loop there on the cricket front for so long no-one has ever picked up the phone and said James come back and play for us.

“I’m happy here and to be honest with you, even though Zimbabwe are playing Test cricket, a lot of guys would love to be in the position that I am in — playing here and having a county contract.”

With Cameron focusing on his county career, he says that the togetherness of the dressing room is helping out on the field.

“We are always having coffee together and socialising,” he said. “People talk about spirit in our side, that is because we are all mates and that helps on the pitch.”

Although that's probably true, PLEASE don't say that in public James. If we lost a Taylor or a cremer it would kill Zimbabwean cricket.

Lies! It's easy enough for him to say all this crap-he wouldn't get into the team. He's more Glen Querl than Gary Ballance i.e. would end up struggling to get a first team position in a franchise. Give me Blessing Mahwire over this guy anyday!

Only in the off season. I doubt these guys would give up Test cricket for county. Anyway thats him, I wont spare another thought cos it really doesnt help.

If he does well in county cricket then I guess this would be a talking point. At the moment it isn't.

I think he's behind the curve. Two years ago, it would've been true - a secure, comfortable lifestyle playing cricket was better than an unstable one at best and non existent one at worst. But things have changed - when Taylor & Co. are playing NZ and Pakistan later this year, or in 3 years' time when they tour England or India, I'd really like to have their reaction to this quote.

In my opinion, we should just forget about him. If he's being so arrogant and sulky about the situation, leave him be. It's been discussed in this thread that when the National Team tours countries like Pakistan, India, New Zealand and (dare i say it) Australia and England, guys like Cameron and Ervine will be chomping at the bit to get back in.

On a serious note I have picked up a trend with Ireland, grandhomme and now Cameron.
They have all mentioned at some point that Zimbabwe cricket has not picked up the phone to ring them .

May I ask why?

Perhaps Ali and friends have taken the position that "if you want it, you show us and make first contact".

But I just don't think that will work if they are relatively happy where they are. Not the word relatively... All these players are young men and have been younger in the past and as you may be aware young ppl just Want to fit and and feel wanted, perhaps if ZC had shown some love they would have been back by now or at least thinking about it. They are all dropouts from the Bobby M time, a bad time where they definately didn't feel wanted.

Who knows what a nice chat could achieve?

Do we really want them when there past their peak Greg lamb or grant flower style?

All 3 would either walk in or be on the cusp of national selection
