ZIMBABWE’S T-20 series against South Africa penciled for next month has been turned into a triangular series with the inclusion of Bangladesh who made a late request for inclusion in the series that starts on June 24 in Harare.
Bangladesh’s request to Zimbabwe for inclusion was immediately welcomed by the two teams as it would give them more practice opportunities.

South Africa first made the request for the Proteas to face The Reds in a five-match-spar ahead of the World Cup to be organised in Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh’s August tour to Zimbabwe for two Tests, three ODIs and two T20s has since been postponed to a date yet to be agreed on with Zimbabwe proposing October while Bangladesh can only accommodate it next year, giving their domestic league smooth running time.

Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Ozias Bvute confirmed the development yesterday, adding that they were already working on the modalities with the involved nations’ boards.

“The Bangladesh Cricket Board requested that the Tigers join us in the World Cup warm up matches that we will have with South Africa,” said Bvute. “We wrote to South Africa who have since indicated that they have no problem with it being a triangular series. We are currently discussing the modalities with both nations. It should be noted, however, that these are not official matches but practice matches that we are all using to prepare for the World Cup,” Bvute added.

Zimbabwe and South Africa play each other every year in different formats of the game as Zimbabwe continues rehabilitation into big time cricket.

Zimbabwe is in the same World Cup group as South Africa together with Sri Lanka while Bangladesh is pooled with Pakistan and New Zealand.

Allan Butcher’s team will be involved in the first match of the tournament when they clash with the hosts on September 18.

The two teams in each of the four groups will qualify for the Super Eight and Zimbabwe’s task is to get at least one victory to stand a chance.

After a disappointing end to a season that started well, Zimbabwe will seek to build a competent side that can restore lost reputation.

They have been boosted by the return of some of their top performers who were absent from the New Zealand tour, who include Chris Mpofu, Craig Ervine and Vusi Sibanda who was excluded for disciplinary reasons.

:D This is a good idea by Bangladesh though i would have prefere out and out matches with South Africa. I just have one question since they are just warm up matches does it mean they are not going to be on Tv?

This could be a decent development. Five matches against South Africa had the potential to be either a major-honing-of-skills exercise in the best of cases, and in the worst of cases, a total confidence destroyer. Playing against the best in the world to cut their teeth, and playing against lower-level opposition in order to gain some confidence could be a good move.

How many matches against each team?

I'd really love it if they moved the matches elsewhere. Harare-Bulawayo and back again is becoming boring. When I become master of the universe, I'll build a test ground in Marondera. Because it's the centre of the universe.
Peterhouse U14C 4th change bowler and no. 10 batsman (but only because Aaron didn't have a bat).

Having spent two (happy) years as a boarder at Marondera High, I would dispute that. :)
