TODMORDEN'S plans for the 2009 Lancashire League season have been delivered a blow with the news that Zimbabwean Sean Williams will not be coming over as professional.
The 22-year-old left-handed batsman and left-arm spinner has had his bid to play in England blocked by the Zimbabwe Cricket Board.
Bulawayo-born Williams, who top scored for Zimbabwe with 38 in their six-wicket one-day international defeat by Bangladesh in Mirpur four days ago, is regarded as one of Zimbabwe's most promising players and led the under 19 side to victory over England in the World Cup in Sri Lanka in February 2006.
Tod skipper Jon Henderson said: "Sean is very disappointed but he and Todmorden do not want to ruin his chances of playing further international cricket by breaking his contract with Zimbabwe.
"The club are actively seeking a replacement for Sean and are in negotiations with a player."

I guess if Zim have fixtures during the English season, then they need to block this move... Hopefully Williams takes this well...

Good to see that Sean Williams is considering his country before the clubs of England. He is really a vital player of Zimbabwe in the middle order and very much needed for the team.
