Re: [Match Thread] Rocks vs Tuskers T20
We continue to lose in the shorter formats, even to the Rocks. With that batting order, I'd curse any franchise which fails to knock us over cheaply!!! All I can say is congratulations guys, you've been competitive, and in all honesty you do deserve it!
As things stand if there was one player I would like to see turning out for the Rocks, it would be Matsi. They lack a quality batsman, he has all the goods - able to play big long innings and take the attack to any set of bowlers from any franchise - so if there's a platform for him to stand out compared to everyone other batsmen we have locally, the Rocks would be it. That man needs some responsibility! Things are far too easy for him in Harare. No wonder he pitches up drunk for club games!
Average game by Panyangara's standards, at least he succumbed in that one over to a man who really should be putting on our colours in the Test & ODI arena at the very least. Since he hasn't been a guaranteed starter for the Tuskers in the short format games, I understand why he's not captain, but if Ewing isn't there when the FC games start, and Duffin is not leading the side - that Staddon CEO(or Streak) needs to have his head checked!
It's clear that when Vitori has a good game he definitely picks up wickets, but when he has a bad game - everything goes totally wrong for him. If one of the HPCs here in SA are too expensive(which means Aus is totally out), maybe we need to send him to one in Pakistan then. It's clear his action & consistency need to be worked on plus he's the only genuine threat it looks like we'll ever have going forward(don't know about the Jongwes and the Musokos)! Invest in the guy NOW!
I find the casanova's absence - following his 33 after two rather poor starts - to be odd? Hopefully it's injury or some other commitment.
Chisoro has been nothing to write home about in the past. But this season he looks to be turning himself into a decent batting allrounder. I'll monitor his progress closely.

wow, pessimistic or what? Chatara's still a baby, while Tiripano is a boy - with a good season behind him - and they have pace (seems to be the be all and end all) even if the likes of LTGM, Muzhange, Waller are medium pacers and therefore without prospects!! Shingi has a few years left in him and as a late-ish starter to cricket i disagree that he has had the time to fully develop - this season should be a watershed for him as well as, probably, for the likes of Panya, and Rainsford. And for all his faults KJ is still a youngster with some good potential..hhm wrote:It's clear that ... Vitori ... 's the only genuine threat it looks like we'll ever have going forward.

Go Rocks. Nice to get one on the board. Bowlers managed to keep things in control. We were stretched trying to even get 6 an over.

I agree with your reasoning - 'some still have age and potential on their side'.betterdays wrote:wow, pessimistic or what? - However, I've already given evidence of the likes of Chatara/Tiripano/Chinouya & Muzarabani's struggles against quality opposition in the A games!
- Ncube I wrote off, and his performances don't exactly say he disagrees with me either
- LTGM is said to be a quick left-armer with huge promise and just like last season, there are signs that he will have another good season so we shall see. But the fact the he plays for the Eagles, has had success and hasn't quite featured for at least the A side says I shouldn't hold my breath.
- Like LTGM Nathan Waller is still to be proven - with a bit of ability with the bat, his lack of pace means he'll be nothing more than a John Hastings/Justin Kemp wher our side is concerned!
- Muzhange has given me no signs that he will ever be a great as Panyangara&Rainsford in their peak! Remember Rusty Theron/McLaren the Proteas of recent past?
- Surely having watched how just about every batsman has his way with Jarvis, you can't tell me he bears that unique knack for taking wickets and forcing the opposition to spare even a moment to discuss how to play him. His only hope is to master the ability to swing it both ways at a consistently faster pace than he does currently. You stand a better chance of success by getting Meth to simply bowl quicker instead!
I've only seen Nicolson & Shingi to be genuine wicket-taking threats - Nicolson withered, Shingi continues to take wickets at every level, in any format and over the years he has been absolutely dominating the domestic scene as far as seamers are concerned. Now, Vitori, no matter how much I've wanted him to fade, looks to be a fellow who will trouble and strike fear in any batsmen - just ask Gayle! I witnessed this myself!
Right now as far as our post-rebel history is concerned Mpofu, Rainsford & Panyangara are still the kings, with Shingi quickly joining them. Apart from Mupariwa's ODI exploits, it doesn't look like any of the seamers have quite lifted up their hands to join that list. This season, like a few games last season, Vitori's wreaking havoc in the domestic scene, plus he's made a name for himself in the international scene plus signs of more to come. So yes "Vitori's the only genuine threat it looks like we'll ever have going forward".

I can't imagine they have had enough 'A' games to have warranted a trip to the trash heap just yet!!?hhm wrote: I agree with your reasoning - 'some still have age and potential on their side'.

not quite overlooking the contradiction in these two statements, if LTGM is actually fast that makes 3 fast bowlers to take us forward: Vitori, Shingi and LTGM (by your accounts) . I think we do a bit better than that but you are right in that it is only at Int'A' games that we will be able to start seperating wheat from chaff...forget about Int games as they're all still fodder!!! unfortunately!hhm wrote: - I've only seen Nicolson & Shingi to be genuine wicket-taking threats - Nicolson withered, Shingi continues to take wickets at every level, in any format and over the years he has been absolutely dominating the domestic scene as far as seamers are concerned.

my quibble here is with your word 'ever' ... but i did see him bowling one corker of an over at Gayle in Zim t20 tourny
Re: [Match Thread] Rocks vs Tuskers T20
Jarvis swinging it both ways with an extra yard of pace is a good idea Hhm. So is Vitori gaining more consistency.
Shingi has been domestically consistent, but has to find his way to that internationally. Meth bowling quicker and retaining his swing would also be good. Question is which of these four needs is more likely to come about? If any?

Re: [Match Thread] Rocks vs Tuskers T20
Most talk about Nathan Waller as a medium pace but he is quicker than Muzhange. Munatsa is more about bounce than speed. Chitara is still a good prospect and I believe that Calum Price took 4 wicket in their league game in Mutare yesterday. I am told he has added a yard of pace.
