South Africa join India in Zimbabwe tri-series

Cricinfo staff

March 23, 2009

South Africa have been confirmed as the third side, along with India, in the triangular one-day series to be staged in Zimbabwe in July.

Zimbabwe had been faced with a barren schedule after Sri Lanka cancelled their series this month and then New Zealand's tour, pencilled in for July, was postponed for a year by mutual agreement.

There was good news for Bulawayo, which has not staged any major cricket since December 2007, with comments from the Zimbabwe board that it hoped to stage some of the games in the tournament there.

Very good news...

South Africa is the no 1 ODI side and India is really dominating in these days.My prediction is that this tri series will be fantastic and there will be flow of runs and wickets.

If Zimbabwe can manage a win against any of these two sides and compete head to head I mean equally, the door of test cricket will be re-opened for Zimbabwe.

I think a win against either South Africa or India will require a good dose of luck on Zimbabwe's part - looking at what India are doing to New Zealand at the moment, all I'd be hoping for would be for Zim to hold their own and not get completely hammered.

But yes, if a win does come, it may well be seen as the turning point for the side.
