Brad Evans is another one, though I'm not sure what he's doing.

Another white batter worth a mention is Brendan Sly, what happened to him?

Kundai Matigmu is certainly a bowler I would been keen to find out about. Saw him clock up to 86mph in the Under 19's CWC.

Again, two more white guys. Wouldn't be acceptable I guess
I keep asking this question and forgetting the answer...but wasnt it Ngarava who clocked 87 mph at the last U19 world cup???
It was Matigimu. In fact if I remember correctly. Ngarava wasn't even in the playing XI at the beginning. His big break came when he did really well when they beat the baby proteas.. Mashinge and Matigimu were the main bowlers. Still don't know how on earth they beat the baby proteas because their emerging team right now would absolutely crush the rising stars.

Such a pity when all the names lauded are nowhere near the class of Ngidi, Rabada, Phehlukwayo, Cohen and young Ntini(just turned 17)!

All these batsmen crushed by these bowlers at u17, u19 and ultimately international stages. It's funny. Very funny. They would come back "refined by England's powerful crciekt system" and still struggle against the fringe lot like Zuma, Bokako and Cele for ZIM A.

It's one thing to talk up players, it's quite another to overstate their potential.

It's funny how the Malans and Jennings who do go to ENG still struggle against those same bowlers for ENG having left the rotting SA system for the thriving ENG system!

Yorkshire is not England, and even then they produce a few per generation. The rest are extremely ordinary. These boys won't be any better.

ZIM has a domestic system and in the main, that is where they should get their players. Only the brilliant ones should be coaxed - and there are none. Those remotely close to invest in like Byrom for a specific role have had those funds exhausted for immediate "goals" ... which are doomed for that matter.

Right now the focus must still be Wellington, Jongwe, Musakanda, Innocent Kaia, Burl, Kasuza, etc. After them Mashinge and Mavuta have already lifted up their hands.

For once let this forum speak about e.g. Mavuta and Mashinge week in week out before they speak about those players who were bossed in u19, have poor records there, and don't even have a single First Class season under their belts!

How many threads must there be on ZCF on these "targets" and names that clearly will never play for Zimbabwe?

Mashinge was outperforming these very same guys with bat and ball. he should be worshipped on this forum. But you'll be lucky to to find just 2 sound paragraphs discussing his batting and his bowlign game.

:D I remember that game very well.

Magarira, Ngarava, Mashinge, Madhevere, Matigimu and Mavuta bowled out the baby Proteas for nothing. 80 odd!

These are the guys that should be celebrated and all focus should solely be on them. They are there(most of them), playing FC cricket in ZIM, playing for ZIm A etc.

Some are even suggesting pushing Bruce James into the A side ahead of them!

Massive assumption. No proof to suggest this would be the case. Welch and Byrom have had good 2nd XI seasons which is probably a step up from our FC system. They would do fine against those very average players you mentioned, going off the stats which are available. Lake also has the stats to show he has what it takes to cut his teeth as this level.

What investment are you referring to? What did ZC do for Eddy Byrom? If I remember correctly, he went on some tours with the Under 17's funded by the parents of the kids! ZC invested sweet fuck all in EB. The only investment they showed Welch was giving him a few franchise games in the 2015 Logan cup.

I strongly agree, but the inclusion of EB and NW would only benefit the cause. So we invest in the boys you've mentioned (and invest heavily) but we also work hard to retain the services of a couple who have left. A couple who, as you mentioned previously in another thread, would fill the openers roles in the future.

We all know this kid has what it takes. Nobody has ever doubted that..? But NW, when he was only 17 might I add, scored three half centuries in our FC/LA system. So his talent is worth discussing as well, opposed to simply brandishing him as somebody who will never represent Zimbabwe. The kid is 19, not 39. A lot can change in the space of a year or two.

sloandog, the point is who exactly does this forum go crazy for and why/why not?

Only sixes fan has spoken about Priviledge Chesa. Why??? At that age and a decent looking bio ZCF shoul dbe going crazy over him.

sixes fan among others used to provide info on some players, but they don't gain traction. Googly would often unfairly rubbish some of that intel - even forumites as far as IND/ENG end up throwing their weight behind him - only for u19 scorecards to overule him, but still there no reconciliation of facts vs perception.

It's almost as if those same players who were outperformed at u17/u19 level miraculously improve just by going to England where they are out of sight but clearly very much in mind.

Were you not wondering where Frank Mwazviita was and what happened to him? Well he;s back and part of the Logan Cup. Someone mentioned he was one of the u19s in Logan Cup. Surely that should excite the forum instead right, and make it wonder where all the others are and there's a buzz around that subject.

There are many other performers.

Yet here the forum is busy finding ways to create a situation where they continue to fail to find a place in the FC system, by having their spots taken up by players who got spce in overseas competition while they remain untested reserves. There is merit, but there is also logic. Merit can't be bereft of logic. If madhevere did well at u19. It follows that if he was in ZIM, then when a spot opens up he should have first preference to prove himslef.

This mass importation of players with guaranteed spots in FC etc makes no sense. Some are even suggesting a whole franchise reserved for "them".

I'm just thinking of the quality they would bring, not only potentially to the national side but also the FC set up. At the end of the day, the reason these guys left was because there was no pathway to the national side, nor was there the competence (I use this lightly) that is currently being shown by ZC.

If I was in NW, Malcolm Lake or EB's shoes, and I had the means to develop my cricket but in another country, I would categorically take it with both hands! I think it's great that young Mwazviita is back, the more the better. We want a situation where the selectors (both national and FC) are having arguments, headaches and debates on who to include. This is what will make a national side strong, competition for places

The one that went to Taylor and Jarvis instead of them

First of all, they left of their own accord. Again it would have made sense only if those funds were devoted to them instead, and at a fraction significantly lower than the peanuts Mire got in comparison to KJ and BT.
We all know this kid has what it takes. Nobody has ever doubted that..? But NW, when he was only 17 might I add, scored three half centuries in our FC/LA system. He only has two half centuries. He must make his way to Zimbabwe on his own.

The reality is ZC messed up by going for BT and KJ first. The returns expected are immediate and if they fail - Streak will inevitably be fired. I see the Pakistani either resigning or being thrown under the busby ICC. I don't see Mukhuhlani and Taibu lasting long after that.

We call it corporate governance, and when you flop badly you must resign honourably or be pushed out, and I'd expect sound-minded forumites to demand heads to roll, otherwise this is just double-standards.

I say wait until after the CWC qualifiers. At least this time no one will/should say the old ZC was to blame. You all got your wish(just like the team of late) and it failed, disintegrated and turned everyone else away.

This is a forum full of "fans" of Zimbabwe cricket. We criticize the team, players and everyone in the setup like there is no tomorrow when we lose badly, but the next time we play a match, we come back with great hope, wholeheartedly lauding the performances of whoever does well on the day. No one here wishes for the future failure of the team like this - just to prove their own demented point right. Can't you see the difference?

This is a hot topic
NW was 15 when he made runs in franchise, not 17. He wasn’t considered for selection at the start of the next season despite showing up and left for greener pastures aged 16. That’s knowing that you’re wasting your time, not leaving of your own accord. Ask Diplock.
