Hi All,
I have been thinking about this for a while and just thought i would throw it out there...
As with most of us, I have been following Mukoma Utseya as captain and his value added to the team.
I have tried not to judge too quickly because he could have very easily become the scapegoat of the failings of the national team in the last few years.
I do however feel that perhaps it may be worth resting him for a few national teams games, either as captain or from the team completely. Whilst it is reported that he has had an injury his domestic stats do not compare to those in the same off spin mould and not to mention his isnt actually captaining the Mountaineers side.
It would be grossly unfair to completely scrap him but it has been a while since he played solid cricket at both international and domestic level. By no means do i want to appear as one of those people that calls for the captains head at the first instance however i think that giving the responsibility to one of the other key players would even increase the drive for them to succeed...
What do others think?
If Prosper is no longer captain who takes over the crown bearing in mind the strain it put on Tatenda last time around......
Current national team Captain

The Legend = Ray Price

Re: Current national team Captain
The debate over national team captain begins and ends with one player - Ray Price. He is the only option for national team captain.
Long term Masakadza could work out but I think we need to leave him to focus on his batting at the moment. I would hate to risk seeing the captaincy affect his batting. Maybe Brendan Taylor or Sean Williams are also possible candidates.

I suggest....
Ray Price >> Captain
Tatenda Taibu >> Vice captain

Re: Current national team Captain
With no doubt Raymond Price the LEGEND should be the national team captain of Zimbabwe.
I also prefer Tatenda Taibu as the vice captain as he was previously the captain of Zimbabwe and his captaincy seemed quite well.
I don't rate Prosper Utseya's captaincy. Hamilton Masakadza failed in the Bangladesh series as a captain.
And players like Brendan Taylor, Elton Chigumbura and Sean Williams should concentrate more on their own performance rather than the captain, I feel... Maybe in the future...

Re: Current national team Captain
By all means Ray Price is a great player but I dont think he would make captian. He has a great position in the team and obviously has the respect of his team mates. But Ithink for captian you would want someone who can get around the park more easily. Someone you can really look to turn things around for you. And that person for me is none other than the captian of Eagles, Elton Chigumbura!
CHRISTOPHER MPOFU: 'The problem was fear of failure. I used to think that when I played, if I didn't do well in one game, I would lose my place for the next one but now I've let go of that'
Re: Current national team Captain
The team captain definitely has to change, but honestly i feel if Chigumbura is expected to take the new ball and get some wickets, come in to bat in the middle or low order and produce the runs we expect from him and carry the burden of captaining the side then he is not going to produce the required results. I would go with Price or Taibu for captain.

I think utseya is last choice, because there is no other contender in team.
