Re: [Series Thread] World Cup 2019
Afghanistan are the new chokers...the last 18 months:
-lost by 1 run to ZIM in the WCQ when the 10th wicket partnership had the game in the bag
- lost to PAK by 3 wickets in the final over at AC 2018
- lost to BD by 3 runs in AC 2018 in the final over AC 2018
- tied match vs IND in AC 2018
- lost by 13 runs to IND in WC
- lost by 3 wickets to PAK in WC
most of these were probably winnable games. a lot of it was probably lost due to braindead captaincy first by the imbicilic Asghar and now that twit Gulbadin who might actually out-do him.

So how was Dhoni backing off that run chase? Smell a big rat there. That shouldn’t be allowed.

Sri Lanka always seem to do well at world cups. They are playing much better than what I would have expected from previous recent odi tournaments.

If Bangladesh can someone keep India to 315-325 they can caus a upset , really tonging for the tigers . Hope I’m proven wrong kriterion and Mushfiq shows why he’s world
Class . Not a better team at the moment to show it against, quality pace and spin plus the quickest keeper in the game. Best of luck Bangladesh !

That drop from Tamin ended up being very costly for Bangladesh, sadly for them despite their batting and bowling improving their fielding still sucks
Looking at the remaining fixtures Pakistan should sneak into the semis, gotta love them one minute they're in turmoil next they're in the semis

Looks like didn't read your post properly FF, I thought you said "please stop"CrimsonAvenger wrote: ↑Sun Jun 23, 2019 1:01 am+1, as long as the arguments don't go to the troll levels of hhm.foreignfield wrote: ↑Sat Jun 22, 2019 7:12 pmAs a neutral fan, Kriterion & Jaybro, please don't stop arguing. It's more often than not a compelling read with lots of good arguments on either side, even if you tend to miss or misinterpret each others points on a regular basis (but that's a seemingly inevitable factor in most online debates anyway).
You missed foreignfield's highlighted point here too![]()

Re: [Series Thread] World Cup 2019
PAK could very well make it to the semis, but NZ have to beat England first (~50% likely) and then they have to beat Bangladesh (~45% chance). If the Pakistan side that showed up vs NZ and ENG show up vs BD, PAK will win. But if its the same side that we saw against WI, AUS, IND, or AFG then BD will win. I think something thats happened 4 times in 7 is more likely to repeat than something thats happened only twice, so I'm saying BD beats PAK, leveling them on both points and wins, with BD winning 5th place on a fairly large net run rate advantage.jaybro wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 2:47 amThat drop from Tamin ended up being very costly for Bangladesh, sadly for them despite their batting and bowling improving their fielding still sucks

A lot of BD fans are blaming the following for us not making the semfinals:
1) Mushfiq's fumbled run out vs NZ
2) Tamim's drop of Rohit
3) Sabbir dropping Warner
My answers to those criticisms
Generally speaking, any mistake is bad, but mistakes are part and parcel of the game. Great sides make fewer mistakes than good sides who in turn make fewer mistakes than bad ones. Bangladesh are merely a good side, so it stands to reason that they will make mistakes here and there, some of them will be massive.
Specifically:
1) Mushfiq gave Williamson an repreive but also took a [relative] blinder to dismiss CDG early in the same innings. That about evens out, even though KW is 10x a more valuable wicket. Because of the context of the innings, that CDG dismissal came out of nowhere and really put Bangladesh back in the game. Ultimately, NZ won because they were the [marginally] better side that day and won by a similarly marginal 2 wickets.
2) People must not have heard of Virat Kohli. Well let me tell them a story. On the occaision that Rohit Sharma fails early, India has this dude name Kohli who bats next, at #3. Career average of 60, average since the last 4 years of almost 80, and all done at a 90+ strike rate. Tamim, takes that catch, India can still get to 350. As it was they fell well short of that.
3) Australia piled on 380+. That means it wasn't just Warner scoring the runs. AUS were gonna get theirs regardless.
Overall, I'd give this world cup a B- (B minus) grade for BD. They will finish either 5th or 6th most likely, and thats a fairly accurate representation of where this team is. If they play shit cricket, they are probably an 8th ranked side or thereabouts. If they play their usual game as they have in the 2019 world cup, they will be around the 5/6 mark.

You’re deluded if you think missing those chances wasn’t a big deal or wouldn’t have made a difference, facts are dropped catches (or miss rumours) will cost you matches.
Saying ‘Oh well we dropped Rohit but it doesn’t matter because Kohli would have made the runs anyways’ is loser talk plain and simple

Re: [Series Thread] World Cup 2019
Bangladesh have had a good WC. The old guard of commentators won't ever acknowledge how good they are, but I think regular people are just beginning to realise that BD are a proper mid-tier team now - a rung above no-hopers like SL and WI.
Shakib is world class.
I hope this is not a high water mark for BD and they keep improving. I have a little fear that perhaps 2019 was their moment to pull off a Sri Lanka 1996 type miracle and they've missed their chance. Someone like Shakib is irreplaceable and will he still be around at the next WC? Mushfiqur is tough to replace too.

We aren't not bowling India out for 200 on that pitch even if Tamim takes that catch. Thats delusional. Weren't you just talking shit about the bowling attack (Fizz took more wickets than Bumrah btw, and both guys did a job of mopping up the tail at the death)? I don't get it.jaybro wrote: ↑Wed Jul 03, 2019 9:40 amYou’re deluded if you think missing those chances wasn’t a big deal or wouldn’t have made a difference, facts are dropped catches (or miss rumours) will cost you matches.

We weren't favorites to win the World Cup. But India and Australia were. NZ are always highly rated as dark horses for semifinals, though not beyond.
I'll take 5th place. Although we should not lose to this Pakistan team (no better than BD in ODIs), 6th place would have been my pre-world cup prediction. Brendon McCullum - a respected cricket mind - predicted Bangladesh finishing equal last with Afghanistan (go figure). So I'll take 5th or 6th.
