I wasn’t watching cricket when this happened but when Murali toured after that incident he warmly welcomed by the public. His good mate Shane Warne had a lot to do with encouraging the crowd to be nice to him.

Murali has had a good reputation here I think. I think the incident was blown out of proportion in terms of what it was and how it was handled. How he handled it endeared him to fans too. He even played in the BBL and was a big hit.

Okay ... and here was I thinking that he might fall into my lap as a pick in the later rounds ;)

Yeah, Murali handled it very well. He was probably one of the nicest guys going around too.

Darrel Hair did some crazy stuff during his time officiating. He once called no-ball to a couple of deliveries Grant Flower bowled in India vs India. On the field from the square leg, saying that Grant was chucking outright. Two on field no-ball calls! And then Grant had to be taken off the bowling! The other local umpire (don't remember who it was) had no say. Hair just bulldozed everyone! The whole episode was appalling. We at least have a more sensible approach to this now. And Flower never had any issues with chucking throughout his career before or after that bizarre incident!

This is the exact reason why I expressed shock and horror when foreignfield took Lungi Ngidi when Rabada was still available...

Ngidi is statistically a lot better though. Maybe that swayed him?

ngidi, tait and bond are all amazing statistically but haven’t had many games in the last decade. So good picks for the stats I guess
