Re: Series Thread: U19 World Cup
C'mon - Ireland hammered a Heath Streak-led Zimbabwe side in Belfast back before the player dispute, and let's not forget the tie in the World Cup. If ever Zim had a bogey side, Ireland are it.Kopje wrote:Lost to Ireland! How low can these boys sink?
Considering they're my 'other' team, I can't really complain, either...
Re: Series Thread: U19 World Cup
I really hope that this isnt the future side for zim because its awful....the whole tournament has been and embarrissment for zim... but on the other hand im pleased South Africa are in the finals im confident they will win it
Re: Series Thread: U19 World Cup
Let's face it, bar Price & Brent, the present Zimbabwe side is the future Zimbabwe side. Average age is probably 22 without those two...zulu wrote:I really hope that this isnt the future side for zim because its awful....the whole tournament has been and embarrissment for zim... but on the other hand im pleased South Africa are in the finals im confident they will win it

There's the Zim averages from the tournament... Painful reading to be honest. With the bat, only Dan Landman comes out with any credit whatsoever... Skipper averged 6.5... The bowling looks a lot more healthy, although this has been a generally low scoring tournament. Landman, Matsika, Jaure & Jarvis emerged with creditable stats, and will hopefully get picked for the provincial sides in the next couple of months...

Re: Series Thread: U19 World Cup
That's right. Providing the current squad sticks together, the current U19 team will probably never get a look in. Maybe in 4 or 5 years after they've been playing the domestic circuit for a while the likes of Mire, Jarvis and Landman might get the occasional call up.aydee wrote:Let's face it, bar Price & Brent, the present Zimbabwe side is the future Zimbabwe side. I think some of you have failed to relise that is not the best set of u19 cricketers playing in zimbabwe right now.
That is a sad issue that needs to be sorted out.

Re: Series Thread: U19 World Cup
Hugely disappointing series. I suppose Jarvis (9 wickets at 20) and Landman (120 runs at 30, 7 wickets at 16) can share the honours for best player.
Re: Series Thread: U19 World Cup
I would be surprised to see Landman or Jarvis get a call up anytime soon. The current quota of white players allowed in Zimbabwe cricket is already filled by Taylor, Brent, Price, and Williams.
This whole under-19 tournament team has been a farce. The team has mostly been picked on racial grounds as opposed to actual ability. If this is the future of Zimbabwe cricket it is a disgrace. It seems if you are black and play for Takashinga you will eventually get called up to one of the national rep teams regardless of form/ability.
