who would you open with?

Post by ZIMDOGGY »

question in my head,

if we had the full gambit of openers available. Namely,

taibu,
hamilton,
taylor,
ballance
gripper
cameron
(anyone else i have forgotten)

who would you have opening and coming in at first drop?

At present it is
hamilton
taylor
taibu.

its working....will you change it?

Hamilton and taylor.
A talented batsman but a modest, hardworking character, Stuart Matsikenyeri is the third of three school friends from Churchill Boys High School, Harare to represent Zimbabwe in international cricket. - Cricinfo.

For the ODI's, Taylor and Mazakadza should definetly open the batting. They combine good technique with brute force superbly.
However in terms of test match openers, I think it should be either:

Vusi Sibanda and Brendan Taylor.

or

Gary Ballance and Brendan Taylor.

Sibanda has a superb technique, and i think he'd do very well in the longer format of the game as he has time to just take his time and score runs when needed. It's something he's not been able to do in the ODI format.
Gary Ballance however has just as good a technique if not better, though he's only an infant in terms of playing top class cricket, let alone international cricket. So I'm undecided for the test match arena, though for the ODI's, i think it's fair to say we've found our combination ;)

Masakadza and Taylor.

It's taken us ages to find a stable opening pair, I'll give them time to gel. Stick with them through thick and thin, in all formats. I'll put Vusi in at 3 for Tests, or maybe Ballance :? Stick with Taibu at 3 for One-dayers.

Hmmm perhaps. I'd actually have Taibu at number 4 and Sean Williams at number 3. And then either Craig or Sean Ervine at 5.

I always think that your best batsman should be in at 3 and I believe that Taibu is our best batsman.

For openers I think it should be Masakadza and Taylor. They have done very well in the ODIs so stick with them! :W:

Masakadza and Sibanda should open in the longer version game
then Williams, taylor and Taibu at number 5. These guys add stability in the middle order.

Greg Lamb has the potential to be an opener in the vain of former New Zealand opener Mark Richardson. Like Lamb, Richardson had limited technique and ability but made the most of his abilities and displayed great concentration. Lamb looks to have the potential to bat time.
