Jason Gillespie is the new Rhinos coach

Post by brmtaylor.com admin »

Just announced on Fox Sports News, there was quite a lengthy interview with him. Basically he said he jumped at the opportunity to coach a franchise, he had talked to Streak about living in the country with his family, and was excited to help Zimbabwe cricket regain their Test status - footage of Taylor in the 2007 win over Australia was rolling in the background too and Gillespie briefly commented on that and how Zimbabwe was moving forward as a team.

Edit: I've uploaded the interview to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YPATyT8NaZA

Great news!

I fely bad when BCCI and IPL steamrolled ICL with all its might. But probably Gillespie getting in touch with Streak can be attributed as a good thing coming out of ICL. They played for the same team, Ahmedabad Rockets, and certainly would have got to know each other and cricket in their respective countries better there.

This is good news for Zim cricket, it just puts us back on the map and raises the standard with world class players and coaches coming in. Where does that leave Bhundu Waller then, but then again our Zim coaches are double jobbing due to shortages of world class coaches.

That was my first thought as well.

Interesting news regardless though.
