These are lists of players who will bat better than Matsikenyeri. Ability, skill, not qualities I would associate with Matsi. He does have experience - at under performing.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

A few years ago on this forum Keith Dabengwa was the main target for criticism. However he would tend to perform well just as someone posted a topic about how he should be dropped altogether. Perhaps the same will happen with Matsi.

Craig Ervine played poorly today, but he is only just starting his international career. He looks like he will be a good player but only time will tell.

he is 25. he is not a youngster starting out. he has been around for a while.

if given a choice between a fully fit sean williams and matsi it is sean every time. he is great. but i do not get the love for craig ervine. he is totally overrated. matsi has more to offer.

I'm going to disagree again.
International cricket is for those who are going to put their hand up and say "I can do this, I want this, and I will succeed", and I feel Matskinyeri lacks those qualities. Yes he's been around for a while, and yes he batted okay today, but that doesn't mean that he's a player with more ability than Craig Ervine. Ervine has more natural talent with the bat than Matskinyeri does, and I think his internationla debut innings backs that up. And age has nothing to do with it. Wether your playing your first international match as a teenegaer or a 32 year old, your still an infant in the international arena, regardless of how much cricket one has played. How long has Stuart been playing international cricket..........7 maybe 8 years ?? And he's consistantly under performed and shown that he's lacks the technique and mental toughness to succeed consistantly, something I feel Craig ervine has. He may fail in his next two or three innings for Zimbabwe, but somewhere in the near future he'll succeed due to his ability with the bat and mental toughnes...

I dont understand why Ervine is being classed as old while Matsikenyeri is still a young, yet experienced player with great potential for the future.

Also, how can Craig Ervine have garnered such dislike amongst some on this forum in such a short time?

Ervine may turn out ton be a dud - we dont know. What we do know is he clearly has talent and deserves a decent shot at gaining a place in the team. Matsikenyeri has had eight years of being consistently selected and yet he still can't prove he deserves to be in the team. If he hasn't proved himself by now he never will. Zimbabwe has been a pretty weak team over the last eight years and Matsikenyeri has still looked like one of the weakest batsmen in the team.
