[Match Thread] Mountaineers v Eagles (Logan Cup)

Post by maehara »

Mountaineers v Mashonaland Eagles
Mutare Sports Club Zimbabwe Cricket Academy, 14-17 September 2010

If last round's matches are anything to go by, I have to tip Mountaineers for this one - much as it pains me...

**EDIT: This has been moved to Harare. That's two "home" matches in a row where Mountaineers have ended up playing away - assume there's a problem with the pitch at Mutare Sports Club?

Hamilton missed out on a ton, out for 90. Mountaineers 178/4 in the 57th.

Apparantley the pitch at Mutare Sports Club was not in a good condition to host First Class matches . I think Mutare Sports Club will be ready for use in the second half of the season . Anyway it shows that ZC wants things to be of a high standard even if it means moving a franchises games to another venue .

I think Garwe was almost there, wasn't he ? His only ODI was against Kenya and he got spanked for 50 from 6 overs with a bucketful of wides, not sure that he'll get a second opportunity with the number of seamers now back in the Zim arena

Eagles taking hold of this game now though, Mountaineers have fallen from 178-3 to 198-7, Garwe 4-29, Mutombodzi 2-24

I think Garwe and the rest of the guys that thought playing for Zim A , or a Zim select was an automatic thing , I would say guys you now need to be special o convince the selectors .
Players like Stuart Matsikenyeri need to up their game or they will forever play for the franchise teams only .

I appreciate that chappie, and there's no doubt that Garwe has improved tremendously now that his batting has come on but the 'downside' to having so many players coming back into the Zim game is that players who miss their chance may not get another one

Continued improvement in the national side should mean that 'A' sides will be far stronger than ever before with experienced players mentoring the youngsters who will be the future national players, will that actually happen ? hopefully it will and i've no doubt that we'll all have diffeences of opinion as to who the selected 'A' players should be
