Re: NZ A to tour Zim in October
I think basically play our strongest squad. Ideally the only players that could be left out should be Tatenda Taibu, Ray Price, Hamilton Masakadza and maybe BT. Oh ja, and Eltie. Replace them with Tenda Chatara, Forster Mtizwa and Craig Ervine.
Ideally the squad should look something like this:
1. Vusi Sibanda
2. ???
3. Forster Mtizwa
4. Sean Williams
5. Craig Ervine
6. Regis Chakabva
7. Shingi Masakadza
8. Greame Cremer
9. Eddie Rainsford
10. Tendi Chatara
11. Natsai Mushangwe/ Tymcen Maruma
I couldn't find the other opener, so maybe Brandan Taylor should play

Re: NZ A to tour Zim in October
I think the best thing to do is to let our strongest team which would be the team or lineup that is going to play Test games play the Test playing A sides .
New Zealand A in October and a tour of Australia.Mind you the World Cup is around the corner . So it would be good to give our best team the desired match practice in any form of the game .
Then the other group which are the up and coming can prove themselves against the associates .Ireland , Scotland, Afghanistan etc

Agree, our top players need to prove against the A Side first before they cry out for Test places. Butcher should pick up his best players for this tour.Flower power wrote:I think the best thing to do is to let our strongest team which would be the team or lineup that is going to play Test games play the Test playing A sides .

Re: NZ A to tour Zim in October
I think we should do away with a mentality that someone has an assured Test cap just because they last played Test cricket in 2004. Remove these comfort zones and you will see everyone upping their game as no one will be assured of a spot in the team.
Selectors please pick on merit . The Logan cup has provided you a basis for selection, in the down years you had the excuse of not having a competitive player base to choose from.

Chatara and Jarvis as bowlers, deffo.
Mutizwa and Waller with the bat. Poss also P J Moor
A talented batsman but a modest, hardworking character, Stuart Matsikenyeri is the third of three school friends from Churchill Boys High School, Harare to represent Zimbabwe in international cricket. - Cricinfo.

Jarvis and Chitara are going to be crucial on our return to the test arena
Re: NZ A to tour Zim in October
We should send the strongest side possible. Since we haven't played test cricket in such a long time we really have no idea what most of our players are capable of in the longer format at international level.
Neil Johnson, Alistair Campbell, Murray Goodwin, Andy Flower (w), Grant Flower, Dave Houghton, Guy Whittall, Heath Streak (c), Andy Blignaut, Ray Price, Eddo Brandes

If we take our best side, we have a good chance of winning. Simpleseugene wrote:We should send the strongest side possible. Since we haven't played test cricket in such a long time we really have no idea what most of our players are capable of in the longer format at international level.
